“Some inconspicuous (不起眼的) artifacts, once unearthed and cleaned, can transport me back across time as I touch them. It’s as though I were in the same space with ancient people who lived millions of years ago.” This is what Xu Danyang, a young member of the Communist Party of China responsible for excavation of the No. 4 sacrificial pit (祭祀坑) at the Sanxingdui ruins site in Deyang, Sichuan province, says of his view of his job.

Archaeology used to be a field few university students wanted to study, Xu says. However, discoveries at Sanxingdui have changed students’ preconceptions. The increasing popularity of Sanxingdui is a good thing, Xu says. The reason why the site has attracted international attention is that bronze ware and gold decorations unearthed there have given people fresh glimpses of the ancient Shu Kingdom, illustrating the inclusiveness of Chinese civilization.

Speaking of the pit team, Xu says more than half the members were born in the 1990s. The daily work of Xu and his team can be split into two parts: the indoor work of reorganizing materials and conducting research, and the outdoor archaeological fieldwork, both of which require great meticulousness (谨小慎微). The process of dig needs careful teamwork, and everyone performs their duties extremely. One does not expect quick success or instant rewards. So patience is a must. The infinite nature of human history can be reflected as one connects seemingly insignificant discoveries.

Joyce LeMay is an associate professor of business at Bethel University. She said that college seniors are always amazed by how much work goes into finding a job. “Many college seniors have great resumes(简历) from internships and other part-or full-time jobs. But they are surprised by how long the interviewing process takes,” Many even become discouraged when they are rejected for a role, too. However, there are a lot of ways to increase your chances of finding the perfect role.

“Don’t just look for jobs online,” said LeMay. “Although it’s easy to find jobs on the internet, over 85 percent of job seekers are also looking at the same jobs. Hundreds of people can apply for each position and employers get inundated with responses,” she said. If you do find a job online, LeMay recommends first looking within your own contacts. “It’s good to find out if you have someone in your network that could help you get connected,” she said.

LeMay also advises writing a separate application for each role. “Your resume needs to stand out from your competition and the best way to do that is to customize(定制) it to the specific job you are applying for,” said   LeMay. In the experience section, be sure to highlight accomplishments that match the job description. This will show a future employer that you’re qualified for the role.

A job search can take three to six months or longer, so don’t take rejection personally. You will not get a job offer from every interview, but don’t let that affect your confidence. It’s important to keep trying. “Many college graduates have their hopes set on one or two companies and when the job doesn’t come through they are devastated(难以承受),” said LeMay. “Keep your mind and your options open—there are many incredible career opportunities you haven’t heard of yet.”

Here is a checklist for whether you can do the following things to live a better life. Tick if you can.

Talk about your emotions and difficulties. We tend to have difficulty expressing our emotions, yet they drive so much of what we do. Worse, we compensate with drugs and alcohol to mask our feelings of not being successful. Talking about how we feel, honestly, can free us.
Don’t be afraid of not being successful. We think being loved is equal to being successful, but as Vanier said, “You are beautiful as you are.” The true measure of a person is not defined by the size of his/her bank account. It’s defined by their emotional bank account, how kind they are and how they treat others. We might envy (忌妒) Mark Zuckerberg’s wealth, but admire people like Mother Teresa more.
In a relationship, take the time to ask: “How are you?” You’re married to your spouse, not success. Yes, work is important to provide for our families. But being there for our families is even more important. Take the time to check in. Ask how your spouse and kids are doing. They’ll remember your thoughtfulness and love much more than your career success.
Stop looking at your phone. Be present! The digital age has brought us instant communication, but are we really talking to one another?
Listen to your deepest desire and follow it. Unlike animals, human beings have moral and spiritual needs. Beyond eating, procreating and existing, we search for the unknown. All of us have an inner voice that guides us. Our hearts often tell us when we are off course. Learn to trust your heart.
Remember that you will die one day. Jean Vanier noted that “We’re all here, but we are just local people. Passengers on a journey. We get on and off the train and the world will continue.” Remembering that you will die one day can help guide our actions today. It can reshape the kind of person we want to be.

B.You must work for your family.
C.You should pay more attention to people around you than your work.
D.You have to ask your family’s daily routine.
【小题3】These are the rules all about ______.
A.keeping you fit
B.improving your life attitude
C.interacting with people
D.having a relationship

Sociologists indicate that people obey the law because they see it as a legitimate (合法) authority. But McAdams, the Bernard D. Meltzer Professor of Law and Aaron Director Research Scholar, shared his two different theories of how the law works specifically: by allowing people to coordinate (配合) and by signaling new information and beliefs. McAdams explains them in depth in The Expressive Powers of Law: Theories and Limits.

The coordination theory is that law works as a focus to help people avoid conflict or other undesirable situations, “One example is a one-way traffic sign. We could imagine working without sanctions (制裁) or legitimacy, because you would be a fool to ignore it,” McAdams said, “Seeing the one-way sign, you know other people will see it too, and you expect that you’ll have a head-on crash if you go the wrong way. Your reason to follow the one-way lines is independent of sanctions or legitimacy, which is simply to coordinate with people.”

But law also works specifically by signaling information about risk or public attitudes that causes people to update their behavior. “People take the beliefs of others as input into their own beliefs and changing their beliefs can cause them to change their behavior,” McAdams said. For example: A new smoking ban might reveal a rising disapproval of cigarette smoking, and it might also reveal that lawmakers now believe it’s harmful.

Either of these could change behavior. “If I’m a nonsmoker, I might be willing to bear more of a cost to avoid secondhand smoke, and that might include resisting smokers. And if I’m a smoker, and I think that secondhand smoke is more harmful than I used to, then I might expect more resistance if I don’t give in,” McAdams said.

【小题1】What does the author intend to do in the first paragraph?

A.Public attitudes need updating all the time.
B.People’s beliefs will decide their behaviors.
C.Lawmakers’ beliefs are of importance to public behaviors.
D.Others’ beliefs will have a bad effect on people’s own decision.
【小题3】What’s the main idea of the text?
A.Why the law is important.B.How the law affects the public.
