Pan Junfan, a one-legged man from East China’s Wenling City, sets a new world record in an extreme hiking competition through the Gobi Desert in Northwest China’s Gansu Province.

The 40-year-old 【小题1】 (lose) the lower part of his right leg in a traffic accident in 2015, 【小题2】was a turning point in his life. He said although the accident was a terrible experience, it turned him into a 【小题3】 (total) different person, a tougher man.

【小题4】 (inspire) by a video of extreme hiking, he set up a goal for himself — to complete an extreme hiking race one year later in the Gobi Desert. Intensive training helped him gradually adapt 【小题5】the fast walking and running. In 2016, he took part in an extreme hiking competition and became 【小题6】 first amputee (被截肢者) to complete the entire journey. “I hope that by completing the challenge I can inspire people and tell them that life has limitless possibilities and not to stop 【小题7】 (try) something different,” Pan says. Since then, he has gone on to break multiple world【小题8】 (record) as an amputee in extreme hiking. His 【小题9】 (determine) has encouraged many people in the whole world 【小题10】 (find) opportunity in difficulty.

It was the moment that warmed hearts around 【小题1】globe. Two high jumpers competed for hours but neither defeated the other. Instead of 【小题2】（head）into a tie-breaking jump off, Qatar’s Mutaz Essah Barshim asked, “Can we share the Gold? ”

When the answer came back yes. Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi 【小题3】（immediate）jumped into Barshim’s arms on the track. Both had suffered 【小题4】near career-ending injuries and both had tried 【小题5】（they）best. Through years of competition, the two became close 【小题6】（friend）.

“I know for a fact that for the 【小题7】（perform）I did, I deserve that gold. He did the same thing, so I know he 【小题8】（deserve）the gold, too, ” Barshim said afterward. “This is beyond sport. This is the message we deliver to the young generation. A message of sportsmanship and love. ”

“You can’t believe the emotion and the dream of a gold medal to somebody 【小题9】sacrificed his entire life for this and it was just amazing 【小题10】（share）it with a friend, ” Tamberi said.

I 【小题1】 (absolute) enjoyed the archery, too, 【小题2】 the horse races were, my favourite part. However, I was surprised to see that the 【小题3】 (ride) were boys and girls! I heard it is because children are lighter and the horses can run faster and farther.
