Celebrating the Yorkshire Dialect (方言)
The Yorkshire Dialect Society (YDS) is kicking off a weekend of activities for Yorkshire Day in Keighley Library with what might be described as an important warm-up event and something unique and special about Yorkshire people—how they talk.
Keynote speakers will include Ian Stevenson on the story behind the Yorkshire dialect, such as the point from which it starts and its gradual development; Rod Dimbleby, Chairman of the YDS, on the 19th-century dialect poet and storyteller John Hartley; and Eric Scaife on readings and recitation s of dialect poems and prose (散文). There will also be an exhibition of books and booklets by the Keighley historian, writer and dialect poet, the late Ian Dewhirst.

11:00 The welcome speech by Rod Dimbleby.
11:10 The story behind the Yorkshire dialect by Ian Stevenson.
12:15 The lunch break. You may bring sandwiches or go to local cafes in Keighley. During the lunch break, there will be time to see the exhibition in the library to remember Ian Dewhirst who sadly died in 2019.
13:30 A talk on John Hartley’s Clock Almanack, a gold mine of the Yorkshire dialect, by Rod Dimbleby.
14:30-14:45 The tea break.
14:45 “Tyke Talk”——a celebration of the Yorkshire dialect through humorous poems and amusing stories—by Eric Scaife.
16:00 Questions and discussion about the future of the Yorkshire dialect.

Join us on December 17th, 2017(2nd day of Hanukkah) for our annual Hanukkah Family Fun Fest for an exciting day of fun activities for the whole family. The Hazimir Choir will provide holiday musical entertainment. Drum Tales will present “The Hearty Story of Hanukkah” show. There will be ceramic(陶瓷)painting of dreidels. menorahs(烛台), and other Hanukkah items for the kids. And fun foods, crafts and activities will be happening throughout the day. Bring the whole family and enjoy a fun -filled day!

3:15-Drum Tales presents The Hearty Story of Hanukkah
Drum Tales is fun, interactive percussive(打击乐)and musical. It is much like the traditional drum circle concept. It combines story telling, musical instrumentation and song. Each participant is given a percussive instrument which becomes their media of transportation to far away lands and exotic(异国情调的)places, to ride the waves of mystery of an unfolding plot, and into the deep realm of imagination and the colorful beyond. Drumming, rhyming, rapping, clinking, shaking and clapping, this performance will leave you feeling refreshed after having returned from a journey through these stories! Adult $7 Child $5

Story of the Forest, the National Museum of Singapore
Visitors exclaim the natural history drawings turned into 3D interactive animations are so amazing! As they walk through the dark space, the virtual images slowly reveal. With a downloadable app, they could take a photo of the animated drawings and discover further information.
Mona Lisa: Beyond the Glass, the Louvre, Paris
VR experts worked to bring the Mona Lisa to “life”, using x-ray and 3D-modelling technology. By wearing a VR headset, viewers are invited inside the universe of the painting and they can see a digital version of the Mona Lisa moving, posing and even greeting them.
Real Sense Library, the National Library of Korea
This exhibition allows visitors to have a more “hands-on” experience of priceless documents with the touch technology. By placing touch sensors behind paper pages and projecting(投影) the ancient text onto a real book, the staff give visitors the feeling of actually handling the priceless book!
Cellphone: Unseen Connections, the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC
This exhibition focuses on the mobile phone evolution. Visitors can see the industry giants like Steve Jobs projected on the gallery walls and hear stories about how they have contributed to the development of phones. And visitors can even “chat” with them.
