Getting around the city when you are six months pregnant and have a two-year-old girl can be really challenging. One spring afternoon，we went to one of the grocery 【小题1】（store）nearby to buy some food for dinner. There was no sign of rain，and the store was just around the corner，【小题2】 we went there without an umbrella. However，we were about 【小题3】（leave）the store when the rain came in full force. It seemed that the streets would be flooded 【小题4】 water within minutes.

I noticed a young Chinese couple staring at 【小题5】（we）when we came to a crossroad and were waiting for the light to change. I figured they were 【小题6】（probable）wondering why a pregnant foreigner was dragging her little kid out through the rain. But as we crossed the street，【小题7】 woman offered me her umbrella. I told her I couldn't take it because it was clearly starting to storm. She insisted and handed it to me as she 【小题8】（hurry）off with her husband.

Though 【小题9】（catch）in the rain unexpectedly，we still treasured the memory and will always recall the 【小题10】（warm）and kindness of the Chinese couple.

The Small Friends Pet Shelter was started by a group of high school students and 【小题1】(they) parents when they started to see many pets 【小题2】 were left behind after their families moved away.

Today, there are about 70 cats, 50 dogs, three rabbits, and a few 【小题3】(turtle) living at the shelter. The young people who run the shelter 【小题4】(work) hard to keep the place clean, take care of the animals, and advertise the animals so that they can 【小题5】(adopt).

They have already 【小题6】(help) to find homes for nearly 200 animals. It is hard work, 【小题7】 the young people working at the shelter think it is worth it.

So if you find 【小题8】 pet that is lost, call the young people at Small Friends Pet Shelter! And if you want 【小题9】(help) out, go and volunteer your time and love. That is what the animals 【小题10】(real) need most.

Every Thanksgiving my family and I, along with others, prepare and serve Thanksgiving meals for the people in our small mountain community. My husband and I also bring meals to the disabled.

This Thanksgiving we did 【小题1】 same. After delivering them to some individual apartments, we went to the 【小题2】 (centre) dining room. We put the boxes filled with Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and some other foods on the tables. People invited 【小题3】 (we) to stay, and thanked us, 【小题4】 we had other deliveries and had to leave. As we started to go out, I turned around and saw them all 【小题5】 (watch) us. Then I asked, “Would anybody like a hug?” They lined up. There was so much 【小题6】 (warm) in each hug.

My eyes 【小题7】 (fill) with tears and my heart with love. Now I visit now and then 【小题8】 (chat) and, of course, hug. This year at my Thanksgiving delivery, when they line up 【小题9】 their hugs, I am going to have them turn around and hug each other. These people have no family at Thanksgiving-- what could be 【小题10】 (good) for them than hugs!
