In Lanzhou, a group of scientists from China 【小题1】 other countries are working together to help increase knowledge and appreciation of China’s ancient heritage. They are recording and collecting digital images of cultural relics from the Mogao Caves, a key stop along the Silk Road throughout China’s ancient history. Nearly 500,000 high quality digital photographs have been produced since they 【小题2】(start) the international project in 1994.

The Mogao Caves have long been a meeting point for different 【小题3】(culture) and are   part of the history of many countries. Today, the caves are just as international 【小题4】they were at the time when people travelled the Silk Road. 【小题5】(attract) by the beauty of these   caves,tourists from all over the world visited Dunhuang. The Getty Museum in Los Angeles has even reproduced a copy of the caves and paintings for people【小题6】(admire) in America.

By 【小题7】 (share) so many digital photos over 【小题8】 Internet, the group hopes to promote even【小题9】 (wide) interest around the world in China’s ancient history,culture,and traditions. They also hope to further educate people about the 【小题10】 (important) of safeguarding historic relics for future generations to understand and appreciate.

The Cultural Landscape of Old Tea Forests of the Jingmai Mountain in Pu’er 【小题1】 (gain) World Heritage Site status (地位) on September 17th, becoming 【小题2】 first World Heritage Site with the theme of tea.

Li Qun, director of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, promised that China will continue making efforts to better manage the site, and guide local communities 【小题3】 (protect) the old tea forests. “It is 【小题4】 (we) plan to strengthen international cooperation and take more responsibilities in the World Heritage circle,” he said.

On Jingmai Mountain, local communities also join in the protection of the site,   【小题5】 (include) traditional festivals and ceremonies related to Tea Ancestor, a belief that spirits live in forest as well as among local 【小题6】 (animal) and plants. Besides, local governments of Yunnan province and Pu’er city have 【小题7】 (recent) released 3 laws and 7 regulations focusing on the protection of the 【小题8】 (culture) landscape on Jingmai Mountain.

This World Heritage Site, 【小题9】 covers about 72 square kilometers on Jingmai Mountain, also spreads to about 120 square kilometers. The landscape was first included in China’s experimental list seeking 【小题10】 World Heritage status in 2012.

A lot of history and cultures are lost as the world progresses through modernization and migration. However, all hope is not lost as certain cultures have found【小题1】(they) ways to protect their history through oral traditions, written【小题2】(account) and cultural practices handed down through generations, for example, Otjize, the magical red paste(膏)of the Himba people.

Found in present-day Northern Namibia, the Himba people are an African tribe(部落)with an【小题3】(estimate) population of 50,000 people. The Himba tribe is often referred to as   【小题4】last nomadic(游牧的)people of Namibia. They count their wealth in the number of owned cattle.

Known for their red clay skin and hair, the Himba women【小题5】(picture)and described as a symbolic image of African tribes up to now. Otjize, the red beauty paste used by the Himba women, is【小题6】(responsibility) for their skins’ distinct red colour, 【小题7】has earned them the name “Red People of Africa”.

Made from a mixture of things, Otjize lends the deep red color to their skins and is regarded 【小题8】the ideal beauty standard for the Himba people. As a matter of fact, Otjize【小题9】 (usual) holds great significance for the Himba people,【小题10】(stand) for the earth’s rich red colour, blood and nature of life.
