Simon Wakefield travelled round Yunnan after leaving university. While in Yunnan, he was astonished by how【小题1】( vary) the landscape is. Down in the south, it's very tropical, but in the northwest, Lijiang, a half new and half old town is on the side of a mountain, its peak【小题2】( cover) with snow. Seen from above, the old town is a maze in 【小题3】 the tourists get lost.

He went to the village where the Naxi ethnic group live. He found that it is the women【小题4】run Naxi society. They have the custom of playing cards in the middle of the street. He also found the Naxi language is the only hieroglyphic language still 【小题5】use and that Naxi culture is【小题6】( particular) famous for its music. Passed from father to son, the music【小题7】(not change) for centuries. He went to watch【小题8】performance in an old wooden hall, which was played by Naxi men, some of whom looked as if they were well over 100 years old.

At last he understood that it is the【小题9】( diverse) that makes Yunnan attractive. However different people may appear【小题10】(be) at first, we are all the same, all equal.

I am in the Sarek National park in Sweden，【小题1】 there are no roads or towns. When I wake up to the sound of the wind buffeting the cloth of 【小题2】(I)tent，I check my watch and find it is 7：30 a.m. I am now above the Arctic Circle，where the sun never 【小题3】(set)in summer. I walk over to the mountain edge. 【小题4】(spread)out before me，branches of the Rapa River flow through the valley below.

There used 【小题5】(be) vast sheets of ice covering Sarek’s mountains. Around 9，000 years ago，the ice melted， leaving behind about 100 【小题6】(glacier). First came the reindeer and then humans，who lived in harmony 【小题7】 nature.

For hundreds of years，the Sami looked after reindeer and depended 【小题8】 reindeer for a living. The Sami was always accompanying the reindeer on the move. Today，most Sami have houses in villages near Sarek.

After breakfast，I pack my bag and set out for another adventure to the other side of the valley. Being in such a beautiful and wild place makes me feel 【小题9】(bless)to be alive. Here I am，alone under this broad sky，breathing the fresh air and enjoying this great adventure. What could be 【小题10】(good)?

On Huangshan, there are oddly-shaped pines scattered about the peaks and ravines(沟壑). They are one of the four wonders of Huangshan.【小题1】other three are: oddly-shaped rocks, hot springs and the sea of clouds.

Huangshan pines【小题2】(common) grow on alpine peaks. It is a uniquely classified tree species in botany.

Huangshan pines are different from other pines. Most of them don’t grow on the earth, 【小题3】root in steep cliffs. Because they take root in rocks, most 【小题4】(live) for well over 100 years, they are seen【小题5】a symbol of vigor (活力). The crooked branches【小题6】(regard) as very beautiful and fantastic.

The Pine Greeting Guests is about 10 meters high. The diameter of 【小题7】(it) trunk is 64cm, and the diameter of its roots is 75 cm. It looks like a friendly host【小题8】throws his arms out to warmly welcome guests from China and abroad. This pine is the representative example of Huangshan’s pines, and seems【小题9】(act) as an ambassador for Huangshan. Being the most photographed thing in Huangshan, its image appears as decoration in 【小题10】(restaurant) and homes all over China.
