In some western countries, March 14 is celebrated as Pi Day, 【小题1】 day to honor the number that many people are familiar with. March 14 has other scientific links. It is the birthday of physicist and Nobel Prize winner Albert Einstein. Princeton University, 【小题10】 Einstein lived for many years, celebrates Pi Day as well.

If you haven’t gotten the chance to experience the Lantern Festival in China 【小题1】 person, you have another chance. The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square is back and 【小题2】(bright) than ever. The lanterns will light up Franklin Square from June 21 to August 14 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. with more than 30 larger-than-life brightly coloured displays.

“Today, the Lantern Festival 【小题3】(hold) each year in China. Each major Chinese city has 【小题4】(it) own light show which attracts millions of visitors and tourists. During the Chinese New Year, families go out to view the beautiful lanterns 【小题5】(create) by Chinese artists. Each display tells a legend or symbolizes 【小题6】 old Chinese story,” according to a Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival press release.

The last Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival 【小题7】(take) place in 2019, and in 2022 guests saw new performances 【小题8】 include Chinese folk dances and the mysterious bianlian (face-changing). There were three 30-minute performances each night of the festival and these performances were free with festival admission.

“One of the 【小题9】(reason) that it is so important to hold this festival again is for Chinatown. We hope that you visit China town before and after the festival and encourage your friends 【小题10】(visit) it,” Amy Needle, CEO and President of Historic Philadelphia, said.

California Governor Gavin Newsom on Friday signed legislation (法规) that makes Chinese Lunar New Year a state holiday. The move recognizes the diversity of cultures that Asian Americans have brought to California, the third 【小题1】 (large) state in the US.

The legislation lets any state employee take eight hours of vacation, annual leave or compensatory leave (补休) 【小题2】 (celebrate) Chinese New Year.

In a 【小题3】 (sign)letter, Newsom emphasized the diversity and cultural significance that Asian Americans represented in California and 【小题4】 (encourage)all Californians to participate in the festival.

Lunar New Year is celebrated by thousands of Asian and Pacific Islander Californians at community events that illustrate 【小题5】 state’s rich cultural history and commitment to racial, religious, and cultural diversity. Many jurisdictions (管辖区) in California have already made Lunar New Year an 【小题6】 (office) school holiday.

Also on Friday, a ceremony 【小题7】 (hold)in San Francisco’s city hall to raise China’s national flag in celebration of the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the 【小题8】 (people)Republic of China.

Zhang Jianmin, China’s consul general (总领事) in San Francisco, raised the flag with Meron Foster, a senior officer at the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Protocol. Zhang expressed his gratitude 【小题9】 San Francisco’s very genuine gesture of friendship” toward China, 【小题10】 he spoke to an audience of us elected representatives, business figures and community members.
