The Disneyland parks are full of amusements, but they are also small cities that deal with deliveries, rubbish, and groups of visitors. People need to move from one place to another; they have to refuel and relax. To meet these requirements, the parks are well-equipped in reality. For example, Disneyland Park in California has a reliable transport system. In Walt Disney World in Florida, dustbins are spaced 30 feet apart, and all of them are emptied through underground tubes.

None of this happened by accident. Walt Disney first had his idea for a play land in 1937. He first imagined the park's buildings in a small size. He spent years collecting ideas by visiting other places. He studied Beverly Park in Los Angeles, including rebuilt historic villages. He visited Colonial Williamsburg, where employees dressed up and walked around. Then he organized a team of engineers and designers to plan and build a small world he called Disneyland. Walt Disney had blueprints (蓝图) drawn up, and tried to get the permission to break ground (破土动工).

In 1953, he bought some land in Anaheim. Some designers thought it was too far, but Disney went ahead. It was like building a new city Pipes had to be fixed. Railway track had to be laid around. Disney chose the hub-and-spoke (轴辐式) street pattern that many cities have. “I want Disneyland to be a place where you can't get lost,” he said, Designers and architects also diagrammed (图解) the rides and made models, while artists painted the background.

Finally in July 1955, the visitors came. If they picked up maps, they could see the results of years’ planning: the shops and restaurants, the square, and the streets. The magic city had finally jumped off the drawing board and come into real life.

Generally,when rescue workers save the lives of people in emergency situations,they   never see each other again.However,this was not the case for Mike Wilson,a member of the U.S.Air Force,and Jennifer Brown,the"little"girl Wilson picked up from the waters of Hurricane Ike in 2008.

The Air Force pilot took a photo of the moment Jennifer gave her rescuer the biggest   hug that he would never forget.The photo touched hearts around the world.For Wilson, who was fighting an illness at the time,it was especially precious.He carried the photo with him everywhere to remind him of one of the most special moments in his life. Eventually, he decided to find the little girl who changed his life and even ran a FindIkeGirl activity on social media.

Finally,10 years later,the two met again on the set of The Real in September 2018. And Wilson told Jennifer,"You, rescued me more than I rescued you".They did not end their friendship there.Ever since they met again,Wilson has visited her family and has spoken to her on the phone weekly.This Saturday,he will visit the Browns again,as 14-year-old Jennifer is bringing him to her military training program,which she encouraged   herself to join in with the support Wilson has provided."I'm going because I would do anything for her and her family in return for the hug.They mean as much to me as my   own family,"Wilson says.

The girl tells PEOPLE:"The program was very interesting and a challenge for me because I had never done it before".She even plans to join the military one day."I am Proud of her no matter what she does and will support her in everything she does,"Wilson   said."I think she understands service and I believe that she will do great things no matter what she chooses."

What does a PhD student do? I am a PhD girl student being responsible for the tear where undergraduate and master students work together. They work on different aspects of my project and other projects in the team. I offer them advice and sort out issues they have. I also assist them with computer-aided design (CAD), programming, and teach them how to use some equipment, like 3D printers. Being in charge of the research group while working or my PhD is also a learning process for me. There is so much support from my supervisors and senior students. There is usually someone to turn to for help!

I start my day at 5 am. I will read some papers and work on my project before heading to the lab in the hospital at 11:00. This summer, our team consists of 40 students, so the lab is usually occupied when I get there. I will attend some meetings, meet with students, and then program or work on CAD.

The best part of my research work is the flexibility in that it involves both software and hardware development. Whenever I get stuck on the programming part, I will move onto CAD for a break. It does not require me to be attached to my screen at all times, which can be quite refreshing.

My project about the development of a robotic system impresses me a lot. A huge milestone for me is designing and developing my first model of a robot. It is quite satisfying to make progress and be reminded of the great potential my research has for improving the current medical treatment.

I think I can progress even further if I have more confidence in myself and ask others for help when I need it most. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter who you want to ask for help, because they may know more about the topic than you do. So, expose yourself to people in the roles you wish to be in and make lots of connections!
