Cholera used to be one of the most feared d【小题1】 in the world, until a British doctor, John Snow, showed how it could be o【小题2】. This illness causes s【小题3】 diarrhoea, dehydration, and even death. In the early 19th century, when an outbreak of cholera hit Europe, millions of people died from the disease. As a young doctor, John Snow became f【小题4】 because no one knew how to prevent or treat cholera. In time, he rose to become a famous doctor, and even attended to Queen Victoria when she gave birth. In general, doctors in those days had two c【小题6】 theories to explain how cholera spread. One theory was that bad air caused the disease. Yuan Longping was born in 1930 in Beijing. To t【小题9】 this crisis, he chose to study agriculture and received an education of Southwest Agricultural College in Chongqing. After graduating in 1953, he worked【小题10】a researcher and began to develop the first hybrid rice that could be use for farming.
