Polar bears are suffering in a much 【小题1】 (warm) world.

Polar bears live in environments too cold for most animals. During much of the year, they live and hunt on the frozen Arctic sea ice. Nature has 【小题2】 (prepare) them for the cold conditions. But nothing has prepared the bears for the danger 【小题3】 threatens the only home they know.

A 2-year-old girl has been rescued from a collapsed building nearly 91 hours after a devastating earthquake hit the 【小题1】 (coast) Turkish city of Izmir on Friday. Rescuers found Ayda Gezgin next to a dishwasher, 【小题2】 apparently shielded her from the impact of the damage. Because of 【小题3】 (lie) in the space called “life triangle”, she survived the terrible earthquake and was lucky to be found by rescuers. The video of the search efforts showed rescue workers crying, praying and clapping as the 2-year-old was pulled from the rubble and 【小题6】 (wrap) in a blanket.

Strange things were happening in Tangshan. For a few days, the water in the wells rose and fell. From the cracks in the well walls, some 【小题1】 (smell) gas came out. Mice, chickens and pigs became nervous. 【小题2】 people didn’t realize that one of the deadly earthquakes was on the way.

The earthquake which destroyed the city 【小题3】 (shock) the people. At 3:42 am, everything began to shake. It seemed as if the world were coming to 【小题4】 end. In less than one minute, the city lay in ruins. Two thirds of the people died or were 【小题5】 (injure). Then, later that afternoon, another big quake shook Tangshan. However, hope was not lost. Soon after the quakes, soldiers were sent 【小题6】 (rescue) the people. They dug out those who 【小题7】 (trap) and buried the dead. More than 10,000 doctors and nurses came to provide medical care. Workers built shelters for survivors 【小题8】 homes had been destroyed. Slowly, the city began to breathe again.

With strong support from the government, a new Tangshan was built upon the earthquake ruins. The city has proved 【小题9】 China and the rest of the world that in times of disaster, people must unify and show the 【小题10】 (wise) to stay positive and rebuild for a brighter future.
