10-year-old Sasha Olsen went on a trip in the summer of 2021 with her family to Vietnam and Japan. She was shocked at the ocean’s pollution levels and dying sea animals.

“We went on this trip and I was so_________,” said Sasha. “But when I saw the way the oceans had become, I got upset. I wanted to know why things were this way but couldn’t find an_________.”

When she returned home to Bal Harbour, Florida, she grew even more_________. She learned some of the_________in South Florida had been closed by the health department because the_________had too much bacteria (细菌)in it.

Sasha sought the_________of her cousin, Narmina Aliyev. Together, they_________ a nonprofit Organization—Iwantmyoceanback._________ the group started small, with friends joining together on weekends to_________the beaches in Bal Harbour. Recently, however, she has__________events to raise funds for beach cleanups and to __________to protection groups.

“It’s__________to bring awareness not just through doing cleanups and meetings, but to show people they can come together through their hobbies and__________together to a common goal,” said Sasha.

Sasha hopes to__________their work to neighboring cities. “We really want to make ourselves visible and__________to all,” said Sasha. “After all, in Miami the ocean is everyone’s backyard. This is the best place to start.”

When Krishnamurthy was a teenager, he witnessed a pond near his home full of trash. The_________the pond inspired him to become a conservationist.

In 2007, Krishnamurthy _________the EFI--a group that restores freshwater lakes and ponds across India. The team works to_________the garbage and restores the natural habitats of birds, frogs and native plants, giving wildlife a chance to _________. Over the last 13 years, EFI has _________restoration work on 112 lakes and ponds.

EFT's_________ goal is to restore lakes and ponds, but the organization's work benefits India's water_________on a small scale， because restoring water body is of great _________in recharging （补给） groundwater. In fact, groundwater is _________to India, accounting for 80% of its water supply.

__________overusing water is reducing reserves at a worrying rate. Government is urged to take some measures，but Krishnamurthy believes__________have a great role to play. That's why he wants to__________what he calls water literacy（水文知识） and raise people's__________of water's importance in people's daily lives. He points to the fact that groundwater in India is used__________，and a lot of it is wasted finally.

Currently, EFI is facing a__________when it comes to handling waste. Up to 95% of the solid waste it________from the ponds ends up in landfill. The group is researching on various__________for reusing and   recycling more of the trash.

With the rise of social media in recent years, young people around the globe have easy access to shocking ________ about how we’re currently ________ to look after the Earth. Websites provide accessible information about ________ matters that quickly have millions of views, and links(链接)to new scientific information are easily ________. But, it’s not just online research that uncovers the ________, and it’s not a distant threat either.________ change is happening around us; our oceans are 30 per cent more acidic(酸性的)and one and a half acres of forest are cut down every second.

Of course, just because ________ people are now readily armed with such information doesn’t mean all ________ will eagerly listen to them. Many ________ young activists simply due to their age, and others still aren’t willing to see the environmental ________ we face, but that doesn’t mean a ________ can’t be made.

In fact, there are some ________ to being a young environmentalist. A study on participants aged 16-24 in the UN climate negotiations showed that adults thought of younger activists as being more ________ due to the lack of financial incentives(财务刺激). Young activists not only aren’t ________ by busy schedules being forced on them, but they also have a simple-hearted view of what’s going on and, being ________ from politics, they often say what adults aren’t willing to.
