The California State Railroad Museum (CSRM) in Old Sacramento totals 100,000 square feet. Completed at a cost of $ 16. 1 million, the museum opened in May 1981. It houses 21 old locomotives (火车头) and cars, some dating back to 1862. Here visitors can learn a lot about railroad history in California and the west in America.

Hours & Tickets

The museum is open from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. daily (except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day). Tickets are sold until 4:30 p. m. $12 adults; $6 students; children aged 5 and under are free.

Parking

A small number of metered parking spaces are available on the streets of Old Sacramento. However, these spaces are not for guests visiting longer than 90 minutes. All-day parking is available in large public garages at both ends of Old Sacramento.

Food Service

The Silver Palace Restaurant in the Central Pacific Railroad Passenger Station serves good food at the right prices. It is just one block southwest of the main entrance to the museum. There are many other restaurants throughout Old Sacramento.

Guided tours and films about the museum are offered daily. There are many other chances at the museum, too, including some historical attractions (景点) within Old Sacramento State Historic Park.

What to See in Langkawi

Set along the Pantai Cenang beach town, Underwater World Langkawi houses more than 500 species of sea creatures including harbour seals, rockhopper penguins, seahorses, as well as mandarin ducks. One of the highlights is a 15-metre walkthrough underwater tunnel, where you can enjoy close-up views of sharks, giant stingrays, and green turtles.

Great for families and animal lovers, Langkawi Wildlife Park &Bird Paradise houses over 2, 500 unique birds from 150 species such as canaries, parakeets, owls, eagles, ,hornbills and flamingos. The park is fitted with a walk-in aviary(鸟舍)and a 15-metre-tall man-made waterfall, where some of the birds are free to roam about and interact with visitors.

Langkawi Arts in Paradise 3D Museum features more than 200 impressive artworks that appear almost lifelike when photographed. As the largest 3D art museum in Malaysia and second largest in the world, there are nine interactive zones within this three-story building, including optical illusion, fantasy, classic 9 castles, landscapes, Egyptian and Malaysian zones.

Located beside the Kuah jetty, Taman Lagenda is a beautifully landscaped folk-themed park where you can explore on foot or hire a carriage to take you around. The open-air garden museum, faces the Kuah waterfront and has a total of 17 colourful sculptures showing Langkawi legends including tales of heroic giants, mythical birds, evil ogres and beautiful princesses.

Interest in sleep tourism is increasing, with a number of establishments focusing their attention on those suffering from sleep deprivation.

Over the past 12 months, Park Hyatt New York has opened the Bryte Restorative Sleep Suite, a 900-square-foot suite filled with sleep-enhancing amenities(设施),while Rosewood Hotels &. Resorts recently launched a collection of retreats called the Alchemy of Sleep, which are designed to “promote rest”, and Swedish manufacturer Hastens established the world’s first Hastens Sleep Spa Hotel, a 15-room boutique hotel a year later.

Dr Rebecca Robbins, a sleep researcher and co-author of the book Sleep for Success! believes this shift has been a long time coming, particularly with regards to hotels. “When it comes down to it, travelers book hotels for a place to sleep,” she says, before pointing out that the hotel industry has primarily been focused on things that actually detract from sleep in the past. “People often associate travel with luxury meals, postponing their bed times, the attractions and the things you do while you’re traveling, really almost at the cost of sleep,” she adds.

According to Dr Robbins, travel experiences centered around “healthy sleep strategies” that aim to supply guests with the tools they need to improve their sleep can be hugely beneficial, provided a reputable medical or scientific expert is involved in some way to help to deter- mine whether there may be something else at play.

Mandarin Oriental in Geneva has taken things a step further by teaming up with CENAS, a private medical sleeping clinic in Switzerland, to curate a three-day program that studies guests’ sleeping patterns in order to identify potential sleeping disorders.

As sleep tourism continues to grow, Dr Robbins says she’s looking forward to seeing “who really continues to pioneer and think creatively about this space”, stressing that there are countless means that haven’t been fully explored yet when it comes to travel and the science of sleep.
