Can you survive an unannounced storm? Although there is expert broadcasting and we are equipped with cell phones, there’re still some instances(情况) when the violent weather takes us by surprise.

While most Atlantic hurricanes form off the coast of Africa giving plenty of early warning, sudden Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico hurricanes form and move rapidly in less than a day’s time, endangering everyone and everything in their path.

Oil workers were trapped off the shore when sudden storms appeared. Natural scientists have been stuck in coastal areas without storm warning. Ten years ago a Texas National Guard group was trapped on the beach by rain-forced flooding and had to ride out(经受的住) a major hurricane during a training exercise. There’ve been a few instances when travelers were trapped on an island or in a coastal area and unable to escape in time.

Escaping from the storm-threatened areas is generally a choice for most of us—but not for all. Each year thousands of islanders across the Caribbean face the danger of hurricanes without so much as a public shelter to hide in. Most ride out the storm in their homes.

But there’re a few things you can do to prepare yourself for some unexpected emergencies. Being prepared for the unexpected may be your best and only defense. If you’re headed outdoors for a few days or weeks, you should always carry a flashlight (手电筒) with extra batteries, a Beidou device (装置), and a basic medical box. If you’re traveling in your car, remember you may suffer high winds. You’d better not stay inside to avoid being blown away along with your car. Keeping your head and your courage up is essential to survival in any type of danger. Let common sense guide you and always be prepared for the worst.

Searching for airfares often seems like a game that passengers are bound to lose.

Prices change from day to day, even minute to minute. Looking through various websites for the best deal can be a big challenge. Even when you do book, there’s no guarantee that you are going to get the best price.

“You just don’t know when to pull the trigger. It’s not like buying anything else I can think of,” said George Hobica, founder of Airfarewatchdog. com.

Harriet Levy paid $ 179 for a recent round-trip flight on American Airlines between New York and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Sitting just one row behind her, Shirley Harrison paid $ 215. A few rows back, Ellis and Dianne Traub paid $ 317 each. There were at least 12 fares on the flight, ranging from $ 169 to $ 360.

“There’s no reason for it,” Harrison said.

Fares can vary significantly in just a few hours. One Delta flight from New York to Los Angeles jumped from $ 755 to $ 1,143 from a Friday to Saturday in late April, and then fell to $ 718 on Sunday.

The flight was one of a dozen the Associated Press(美国联合通讯社)followed over three months for a vacation between July 16 and 22. The number one finding: avoid booking tickets on weekends. It’s the most expensive time to buy.

There’s no way to guarantee the best fare. But before booking, travelers should pay attention to this additional advice:

● Book on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. That’s when airlines most often offer sales.

● Buy in advance, but not too early. The best time is four to six weeks before traveling. In general, prices for any given flight are the highest when tickets are booked eight to ten weeks and two to three weeks in advance.

● Make use of social media. Airlines are giving more benefits like exclusive(专有的)sales to travelers who interact(交流)with them on Twitter and Facebook. Those specials are often gone within hours.

● The so-called discount airlines — JetBlue, Air-Tran, Southwest and Frontier — adjust their fares less frequently than other airlines, so you can feel more confident that the price will stay the same. But their prices aren’t always the lowest. Researching multiple airlines’ fares is the only way to get a good deal.

【小题1】What can we infer from the first sentence of the text?
A.Passengers are unable to search for airfares.
B.Airlines often play games with passengers.
C.Airfares are set in different situations.
D.It’s difficult for passengers to get the best price.
【小题2】What does the underlined phrase “pull the trigger” Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Start searching.
B.Get the highest price.
C.Make a purchase.
D.Get on the plane.
【小题3】By using a lot of figures, the author intends to ________________.
A.show there is a standard price for every single airline
B.discover the rules behind airfares
C.guarantee passengers a low price
D.prove airfares can vary widely
【小题4】Passengers are advised to book flights __________________.
A.in the middle of the weekB.on special websites
C.several months before travelingD.with discount airlines

Most of us look forward to the weekend as a time to relax. But as the weekend comes to an end, many of us are missing out on Sunday Funday and instead experiencing a looming sense of anxiety and even dread about the upcoming week. But even though the Sunday scaries are common, 【小题1】. Here’s how experts say you can ease your end-of-weekend anxiety.

1. Structure your Sunday.

“Structure can be a best friend when feeling the Sunday scaries,” says Ficken. “Instead of sitting on the couch and watching the clock, go do something that you enjoy. “You might still get whiffs of that sense of dread, but that feeling is harder to hold on to when you’re engaged in something that makes you feel good, she says.

2. 【小题2】.

When structuring your Sunday, try not to cram in too many chores. If you’re feeling more stress in general, it’s important to make space for relaxing activities to ground yourself. “Maybe a body scan meditation, maybe a mid-afternoon shower or bath, maybe an engaging movie or show, ” Warren says. “Whatever feels like a helpful distraction to reground from the scaries.”

3. Identify your anxiety sources.

Anxiety is a normal human experience, and one of the main ways to manage it is to identify your personal triggers. “Try to pinpoint what’s really causing you to dread the week,” Goff says. “Is it a deadline, meeting or presentation?” Even if there’s not a single reason behind your Sunday anxiety, organizing the stress you expect from the week ahead into bite-sized chunks can help make it all more manageable. “【小题3】.” she recommends. “One list for tasks that need to be completed immediately, another for tasks that are less urgent, and a final list for tasks that you’d like to complete at some point.”

4. Create some excitement for the week ahead.

Getting rid of the Sunday scaries isn’t just about minimizing the doom and gloom of the week ahead, either. “Having something to look forward to gives you something to think about that’s pleasing, rather than only focusing on the dread you feel.” Ficken says. It’s a form of reframing your thoughts: Instead of focusing on the awful things you expect from the week, build excitement over a coffee or lunch date with a friend you’ve been meaning to catch up with. 【小题4】.

5. End your Sunday with the right energy.

Make Sunday nights about doing something for yourself, to counteract the anxiety you’re feeling about Monday. Maybe that means planning some favorite foods to enjoy while watching football. Or maybe you go all in for some self-care. “This is an opportunity to give yourself proper wind-down time. 【小题5】, and leave the work emails for Monday morning.” Warren says.

A.they will stress you
B.they are manageable
C.Prepare yourself for it
D.Don’t forget to relax
E.Create multiple to-do lists
F.This will help improve your mood
G.Make Sunday night all about you
