Study Areas in Iowa State University’s Library

The Periodical Room on Floor 2 is a Quiet Zone, requiring an absolute minimum of noise and distraction. Users are completely banned from conversations (including mobile phones), and no group work is allowed.

•Group study rooms must be reserved online using a valid University account and a University Card on a first-come-first-served basis.

•Thirteen rooms are available for groups wanting to work together in the Library.

•Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance.

•Groups have 15 minutes after the start of their reservation to arrive. If a group has not claimed their study space by that time, their reservation will be cancelled.

•Research study rooms are assigned to individual users for research and other scholarly activities that require extensive use of library materials.

•Applications can be picked up at the Circulation Desk in the Library or request one via email at libstudy @iastate. edu.

•There is usually a waiting list for these rooms. Applications should be made in advance if possible. Generally, these rooms are shared spaces because of the high level of demand.

•Essential equipment is provided for each study, and additional equipment may not be added without authorization. The Library is not responsible for personal property (laptops, textbooks, notebooks, etc) left in these rooms. All Library rules and regulations apply to these rooms. Food and fruit are forbidden, though drinks in covered, spill-proof containers are permitted.

•At the end of the assigned period, the key issued for each study room must be returned promptly to Circulation staff or the user will be billed.

Museum of Latin American Art: Founded in 1996, it is the only art museum in the United States devoted to modern and contemporary Latin American art. Since its beginning, it has doubled its size, added a 15,000 ­square­ foot sculpture garden and expanded its permanent collection, ranging from works by Tamayo and Matta to Cruz­Diez, Los Carpinteros and Tunga. Free admission every Sunday.

Autry Museum of the American West: Located in Griffith Park, the Autry features world­class galleries filled with Native American art and artifacts, film memorabilia, historic firearms and more. The Autry’s collection of more than 500,000 pieces of art and artifacts includes the Southwest Museum of the American Indian Collection, one of the largest and most significant collections of Native American materials in the country. Free admission on the second Tuesday of every month.

Descanso Gardens: Located in La Cañada Flintridge, the 160 acre Descanso Gardens was originally developed in 1936 by Elias Manchester Boddy, whose numerous interests included horticulture and politics. Descanso Gardens offers numerous areas for exploring, including a Japanese tea garden, Water-­wise garden, Oak Woodland, California Garden, and the world’s largest collection of camellia flowers. Free admission on the third Tuesday of every month.

Kidspace Children’s Museum: Founded in 1979 by members of the Caltech community and Junior League of Pasadena, the museum develops the potential of all kids through kid­driven experiences, inspiring them to become joyful, active learners. Admission to the museum is free on First Fridays.

Reading Nooks

We are proud of our children's reading area（located behind the Poetry Section on the first floor, as well as our teenagers' nook on the second floor. Come for the festivities and stay awhile! Settle in one of these reading areas; curl up（蜷缩）with a good book and a free cup of hot chocolate. You will discover the perfect way to spend a few hours.

Book Events

The Book Nook will be featuring monthly book signings by different authors, giving you a chance to meet and speak with well-known writers. Do not miss the unforgettable experience of hearing distinguished authors read aloud from their own books!

We also have summer reading programs for children of all ages. These programs are a great way to meet other children and share ideas about your favorite books.

The Book-of-the-Month Club

Our Book-of-the-Month Club will feature 12 books each year. As a member, you will select one newly released title each month from the category of your choice. The membership fee is S120.00. That is a great price for 12 books per year!
