How to End a Video Game Addiction

Playing video games casually can be a great way to relax and have fun. But if you’re so absorbed in gaming that it feels like it’s taking over your life, you may have a video game addiction. 【小题1】 The following tips may help you.

Give yourself a strict time limit for daily play.

Health experts recommend that school-aged kids should spend no more than 2 hours a day in front of a screen. If you’re struggling with too much gaming, try setting specific limits for yourself on how long you play each day. 【小题2】

Keep gaming devices out of your bedroom.

If you have a computer, or other gaming device in your room, you may be attracted to stay up all night playing instead of getting the sleep you need. 【小题3】 If you have games on your phone, switch it off at night or put it somewhere you can’t easily reach it at bedtime.

【小题4】

If you play games on your phone or on your computer, you can install (安装) apps that limit your play time or set alarms on some apps. Some apps can limit your access to specific games, while others will lock you out of your device altogether during a set time.

Distract yourself with other fun activities during the day.

You’ll be less likely to get stuck on gaming if you have other things to keep you busy. 【小题5】 Schedule time that you’d normally spend gaming to do other things you like.

A.Set an alarm clock to remind you.
B.Try apps to block your access to games.
C.Fortunately, there are things you can do to get your addiction under control.

How much exercise does your dog need?

As many dog owners are aware, dogs need regular exercise to stay healthy and to stop them from getting bored. 【小题1】 To help dog owners work out how long their pets need to stretch their legs each day, here comes the advice on just how much exercise your dog should be getting, based on the age, size and breed!

【小题2】 A good rule is that they should enjoy five minutes of a movement twice a day per month of their age. In other words, if your puppy is 12 weeks old, keep walks or play sessions to around 15 minutes each. As it gets older and stronger, the amount of exercise can be increased gradually. Equally, old dogs may struggle to take long walks, but should still be given the opportunity to go outside at least twice daily.

All dogs should be let outside for exercise, but how intense that exercise should be depends, in part, on the size of the dog. 【小题3】 In addition to regular play in the house or garden, they should also be taken for walks twice a day and these should last for at least 30 minutes each. Smaller puppies often require less of a workout, so letting them out into the garden for a runaround can be an appropriate form of exercise.

Some breeds, such as border collies, Belgian Malinois and German shepherds, have been bred as “working dogs”. 【小题4】 But the key to ensuring that your dog is able to keep up with you assuming that you have selected an appropriate breed, is consistency. Try to avoid going for a five-minute walk one day and embarking on a five-mile hike the next. 【小题5】

A.Larger breeds need more space to roam.
B.They are suited to cover long distances.
C.Age is the first factor that should be considered.
D.Only in this way can your dog get suitable amount of exercises.
E.Rather, a steady routine will help your dog be prepared for the next adventure.
F.While puppies are often energetic, it is important not to over exercise young dogs.
G.What they might not know, though, is that the amount of time they need outdoors varies.

Get along with your roommate

While sharing a dorm with someone else is challenging, it can also be a great part of your learning experience.

◆Clarify your expectations from the beginning. Do you know in advance that the alarm clock bothers you every morning? 【小题1】Let your roommate know about your habits and preferences. Communicating what you need is one of the best ways to remove problems before they become problems.

◆Address problems when they' re little. 【小题2】 Are your clothes being borrowed faster than you can wash them? Addressing things that disturb you while they' re still little can help your roommate realize something is wrong. And it is much easier than addressing them after they've become big.

【小题3】 This may seem simple, but it’s probably one of the biggest reasons why roommates experience conflict. Don't you think he'll mind if you borrow his sneakers for a game? Don't borrow, use or take anything without getting permission first.

◆Be open to new things. Your roommate may be from someplace you've never heard of. They may have a religion or lifestyle that is completely different from your own. Be open to new ideas and experiences, especially as it relates to what your roommate brings into your life. 【小题4】

◆Stay open to change. You should expect to learn and grow and change during your time at school. And the same should happen to your roommate.【小题5】 Be comfortable addressing things that unexpectedly come up, setting new rules and being flexible to your changing environment.

A.Respect your roommate's stuff.

Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possible cancer.

Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time. Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Others burst with anger, scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They cannot or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.

For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same chemical. They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc. In general, the person feels excited and ready to act.

Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.

Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger. They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “Do not express your anger while angry. Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”

Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. They said that laughter is much healthier than anger.
