When we think of the term women of influence, what comes to our mind? Are they women who have social status and power, whose work brings about great changes for their communities, countries and the world? As women of influence their work is important.

There are other women of influence whose roles are equally as important but often go unnoticed in social media. The roles our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts play in our lives, influencing the people we’ve grown to be. These women also lead by example with love, strength, gentleness. They made and continue to make personal sacrifices (牺牲) so that we can be healthy and happy.

There are many women in my life who have helped me grow into the woman I am today. First my Mom, whose strength and courage showed me how to be strong and courageous too. My memories of her still fill me with love and inspiration. My grandmother taught me by example, how to age gracefully while continuing to stay connected to the world around her even when she became too old to go out.

I am grateful to many friends of all ages, who share my joys, my sorrows, celebrated my strengths as well as my weaknesses. Without the influence of all these women in my life I would not be the woman I am today. For each and every one of these beautiful women, I am deeply grateful for their wisdom, love and guidance along my life journey.

I would like to wish all the women of the world a Happy Mother’s day. You make a difference to the men, women and children who come into contact with you each and every day. No matter what your role is, you are a woman of influence.

One morning I jumped into the swimming pool and the words "eighty-four degrees" popped into my mind. I knew that the temperature of the water was 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Just to confirm my impression, I dropped a thermometer(温度计) into the water. Sure enough, it was 84 degrees. Over the next few days, a the temperature in the pool changed, I continued to "guess" the water temperature accurately. I then realized had become something of a "human thermometer".

I was not born with this ability. I trained myself to do it, entirely by accident. Swimming is one of my favorite activities. Each morning from late April through early October, I swim laps in my backyard pool. didn’t really develop any special ability. Every healthy person is able to sense warmth and cold. What I did was connect those sensations to specific numbers. Over time, with daily reinforcement(加强), it made me into an amazing human thermometer. It certainly won't get me a show on "America's Got Talent", but it does earn me a little respect at the beach or at pool parties.

What's most interesting to me is the way it came about I did not try to learn how to be a human thermometer. Yet as a result of my consistent actions, day after day, it did indeed happen. And that made me wonder what else I was training myself to do that I didn't even realize.

I started writing articles for The Daily Motivator back in 1995 because I understood the power of positive reinforcement on a daily basis. The messages are short and simple and not particularly shocking I take Sundays off but other than that I have never missed a single day of writing a new, original daily message in 21 years. This actually makes a real difference to me. Not overnight, but over time.

A couple had a son eleven years after they married. They were a loving couple and the boy was the apple of their eye. When the boy was around four years old, one day the father was very tired after work so he asked his wife to pick up their son. The mother, who was very busy in the kitchen, totally forgot about it.

Later the boy lost his way on the street. When the son was found missing, the mother hurried to look for him, but she didn't find him. The mother felt very sad and didn't know how to face her husband.

When the father went to the police station after hearing that the son was missing, he looked at his wife and said just four words. What do you think the four words were? The husband just said “I love you, darling.”

The son was missing. If she had picked him up earlier, this would not have happened. There is no point in blaming (责备) anyone. His wife had also lost her only child. What his wife needed at that moment was comfort and understanding from her husband. That is what the husband gave his wife. Several weeks later, with the help of the police, the couple finally found their lost son. The family's relationship became stronger over that time.

Sometimes we spend lots of time asking who is to blame. We miss many chances to give each other support and let each other feel the warmth of human relationships. Get rid of all your unwillingness to forgive, selfishness, and fears and you will find the world is much more wonderful.
