Alice Thompson is a girl from Sydney, Australia. She had her first long-distance train ride at the age of 18. They did this 【小题9】 the 1920s. Then the government built 【小题10】 new railway line and took the place of the camels. They didn’t deed the camels any more.

I was recently fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel to Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. As【小题1】amateur student of history, I have always been fascinated with this incredible city and had【小题2】(particular) high expectations.

Upon landing and heading to my hotel, I began to wonder what the scenery around my hotel would be like. The following few days【小题3】(find) me floating down the ancient canals in the “Old Town” district of Suzhou, visiting its gorgeous and historic gardens,【小题4】(explore) the many markets of the city and taking advantage of every opportunity I could to eat favorable Suzhou cuisine. I found myself【小题5】(overwhelm) by the infectious energy that surges (涌动) through the city.

This “energy of Suzhou” is represented best by its people. Suzhou people have enormous respect for【小题6】(they) city’s history, while also having an innovative eye on the future. Suzhou served【小题7】a key trading hub for much of China’s history, drawing in scholars, engineers【小题8】merchants from all over the country for thousands of years.

The entirety of Suzhou【小题9】(be) a true treasure of China that manages the difficult balance of innovation and preservation. I eagerly await what extraordinary【小题10】(accomplish) it will surely achieve next.

Yucun and Xidi, two villages in eastern China, 【小题1】 (entitle) “Best Tourism Villages” by World Tourism Organization in 2021. The “Best Tourism Villages” initiative aims to promote the role of tourism in 【小题2】(protect) rural villages, along with their landscapes, natural and cultural diversity. The village of Yucun, located in Anji County of east China’s Zhejiang Province, is often referred to as a “beautiful town” as its 【小题4】 (environmental)conscious (有……意识的) local authorities treasure the area’s clear waters and green mountains. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, the village based its economy 【小题5】 the area’s high-quality mineral resources and became the 【小题6】 (rich) community in Anji, but it also paid 【小题7】 high price for pollution. In recent years, Yucun has made the effort 【小题8】 (improve) its environment and by now it has become a popular tourist destination.

Xidi, 【小题9】 unique, elegant black tile (瓦片) roof wooden houses and decorative gate towers are well-known, is located just 40 km from the Huangshan tourist attraction. Xidi ranks among China’s ten most important historic and cultural 【小题10】 (center).
