The guzheng is one of the 【小题1】(popular) instruments in China. It has 【小题2】 history of more than 2,500 years. The earliest records of the guzheng 【小题3】(find) in the Warring States Period (战国时期). The musical instrument later became a 【小题4】(wide) played instrument in China and found 【小题5】(it) way to other countries.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the guzheng and a number of other traditional Chinese instruments experienced a major overhaul (改造) to expand their sound range and improve their expressiveness. The redesign of the guzheng was led by Professor Wang Xunzhi from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. 【小题6】 the help of his students, he recorded a large number of traditional guzheng music. Wang spent a few years 【小题7】(design) the new guzheng and completed it in 1958.

The new instrument 【小题8】 is commonly used today, is 160 centimeters long and has 21 strings (弦). The most important change is the new set of strings that are made of steel coated with nylon. This allows the instrument 【小题9】(produce) a greater sound similar to that of a piano. Most guzheng 【小题10】(performer) use this kind today.

Cultural relics are a part of history, 【小题1】 represent people’s cultural treasures. Therefore, it is important for us to protect them.

As we know, most cultural relics are really valuable because they have seen the history of our country, 【小题2】 allow us to have a better understanding of our country’s history and culture. We can also learn a lot from our ancestors and feel proud of 【小题3】 (be) a Chinese person while enjoying these valuable treasures. 【小题4】 addition, we are able to develop tourism and promote the economy when the well protected cultural relics are open to public.

Dunhuang is home to the Mogao Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage site, elements of which 【小题1】 (be) on display in an ongoing exhibition at the National Base for International Cultural Trade in Beijing. Painted sculptures and other splendid 【小题2】 (item) of cultural heritage have been reproduced, while those caves 【小题3】 are now closed have now been reproduced in digital form.

The exhibition area, 【小题4】 (cover) some 1，600 square meters, features the results of research on nearly 50 sets of cultural relics from the Dunhuang Academy. 【小题5】 the real grotto in Dunhuang is no longer open to the public, the digitally 【小题6】 (restore) grotto can be preserved forever in the digital space.

Opening in July, the exhibition will last for three years. It is the first time that the Dunhuang Academy 【小题7】 (hold) such a long exhibition in Beijing. By the end of 2021, the “digital Dunhuang project” had completed the digital 【小题8】 (collect) of 268 grottoes. Such projects have provided a means of preserving China’s splendid cultural heritage for future generations, while making it more 【小题9】 (wide) available both at home and abroad. It is hoped that the “digital Dunhuang” will not only allow more audiences to experience the artistic charm of Dunhuang, 【小题10】 also promote exchanges between cultures along the Belt and Road under new historical conditions.
