On Monday, millions of people in Ethiopia planted more than 350 million trees in 12 hours. The【小题1】(origin) goal had been to plant 200 million trees that day. According to the United Nations, Ethiopia’s forest coverage was 35% in the early 20th century but it is just above 4% now. The Green Legacy Initiative’s goal is to plant 4 billion trees in Ethiopia this year. So far, about 2.6 billion【小题4】(plant). Other countries and groups have taken similar efforts. In 2017, volunteers in India planted 66 million trees in 12 hours. Australia plans to plant a billion trees【小题5】2030. The African Union, a group of 55 African countries,【小题6】(be) building a “Great Green Wall” of trees to stop the spread of the Sahara desert.

Last Tuesday, a Roots & Shoots project was set up in my community. As I walked down No.1 Street, I saw volunteers【小题1】(encourage) people to join in. Volunteers stated that many human activities ignored the environment,【小题2】(leave) wildlife【小题3】(suffer) badly.【小题4】(shock) by the message, many people felt that we should act at once.

While recently many people have become more concerned about environmental protection, there are still some who haven’t,【小题5】(think) that someone else will deal with the problem. However, if everybody had that attitude, environmental problems would exist all the time. We should remember — it’s not just "me"!
