I was recently fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel to Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. As【小题1】amateur student of history, I have always been fascinated with this incredible city and had【小题2】(particular) high expectations.

Upon landing and heading to my hotel, I began to wonder what the scenery around my hotel would be like. The following few days【小题3】(find) me floating down the ancient canals in the “Old Town” district of Suzhou, visiting its gorgeous and historic gardens,【小题4】(explore) the many markets of the city and taking advantage of every opportunity I could to eat favorable Suzhou cuisine. I found myself【小题5】(overwhelm) by the infectious energy that surges (涌动) through the city.

This “energy of Suzhou” is represented best by its people. Suzhou people have enormous respect for【小题6】(they) city’s history, while also having an innovative eye on the future. Suzhou served【小题7】a key trading hub for much of China’s history, drawing in scholars, engineers【小题8】merchants from all over the country for thousands of years.

The entirety of Suzhou【小题9】(be) a true treasure of China that manages the difficult balance of innovation and preservation. I eagerly await what extraordinary【小题10】(accomplish) it will surely achieve next.

In human history, many ancient and splendid civilizations were born and died. China is the only country 【小题1】 uninterrupted human civilization. Chinese civilization was born on the shores of the Yellow River. And the rich land 【小题2】 Chinese civilization began is Henan Province.

The Yellow River goes across 【小题3】 (center) Henan. It is China’s main north-to-south and east-to-west artery (干线). Potala Palace is the highest ancient palace in the world. It 【小题1】 (say) to be used for greeting a Han Princess. According to the legend, in the 7th century, 【小题2】 (greet) his bride Princess Wen Cheng, the Tibet King Songtsen Gampo built 【小题3】 9-storey palace with a thousand rooms upon the Red Hill and named it Potala. The palace was 【小题4】 (main) made of stones and woods, and decorated with special local willow branches. Potala Palace is a symbol of the cultural and 【小题6】 (economy) communication of Tibet and Tang Court. It is composed 【小题7】 2 parts, the Red Palace as the center and the White Palace as two wings. The Red Palace is the highest part in the center that is completely devoted to religious study and Buddhist prayer. The White Palace, once served as the office building of Tibet’s local government, makes up the living quarters of Dalai Lama. And 【小题8】 (it) wall was painted to white to convey peace and quiet. The Great East Hall on the fourth floor, 【小题9】 (occupy) a space of 717 square meters, was the site for important religious and political 【小题10】 (event).
