It is discovered that the birds that people value most are endangered 【小题1】 climate change. In the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica, we spent four years identifying and 【小题2】 (count) birds in a range of landscapes and habitats. Then, we 【小题3】 (ask) hundreds of people in all those places — farmers, birdwatchers, people in cities — to rank the birds we had counted.

The birds that people rank highest are 【小题4】 (general) found in rainforests, with their ecosystems most 【小题5】 (threaten) by climate change. In this particular part of the world, we're seeing the drought period get longer and the rainy season get 【小题6】 (short) in certain years. Climate is becoming more unpredictable. As the forest dries out, the 【小题7】 (condition) for birds are becoming more extreme. For one thing, if trees don't get enough water 【小题8】 (grow) their leaves in the rainy season, then birds and other animals struggle to find enough food and nesting material for their breeding season. In the future, we predict that rainforests will become dry forests, 【小题9】 means we may be seeing less of those birds. That's not only 【小题10】 loss for biodiversity but also for people's history and culture.

With fewer than 2,000 giant pandas left in the wild, the sighting of one of the lovely animals is a cause for【小题1】 (celebrate). However, the one recently spotted 【小题2】 (walk) through a bamboo forest in China’s Sichuan Province is even more so, considering that it is the world’s first known all-white panda! 

It 【小题3】 (spot) by an infrared (红外线的) camera set up to monitor the wildlife in the Wolong National Nature Reserve on May 25,   2019, 【小题4】 is also home to China’s first giant panda breeding and research centre.Wolong officials estimate the panda, whose sex is hard【小题5】 (determine) from the photo, is between one and two years old.

It is generally believed that 【小题6】giant panda’s unique black and white coloring allows it to blend in with the snow during winter or to hide in the shade during summer. Some 【小题7】 (scientist) also believe the dark circles around the eyes help the panda bears recognise each other.【小题8】 (lucky), the lack of markings does not seem to have affected the all-white panda so far. 

The researchers say albino   (白化病) animals are rare in general. That’s because it can only happen if both parents carry the gene. With so few specimens of panda bears left in the world,   the possibility of that happening is almost next 【小题9】impossible. Researchers believe if its offspring can be photographed, it will be 【小题10】 (value) for further research.

The dog, later【小题1】(name) Arthur, came up to a Swedish team while the members were sharing a meal in front of a 20_mile race stage through the rough area in Ecuador. One of the【小题2】(athlete), Mikael Lindnord, took pity on the dog wandering near their table and fed【小题3】meatball to it. And that meatball made them friends for life, as far as Arthur was concerned.

The extreme sport of adventure racing includes biking, hiking, and boating that challenge even the【小题4】(strong) humans. Imagine a dirty stray（迷失的）dog trying 【小题5】(keep ) up. But Arthur【小题6】(do) keep up. The dog followed the team as they got up to leave.【小题7】(actual), he never stopped following them---swimming alongside the boat of the team, and taking on muddy(泥泞的)slopes when the team hiked.

Arthur stayed alongside the team for the rest of the【小题8】(compete),but not without cost to his well—being. The dog needed doctor’s attention after the six-day race was finished【小题9】the team helped Arthur as much as they could during the event. Arthur’s hard work paid off: Lindnord decided to adopt(收养) the dog 【小题10】brought him back to Sweden.
