4 Key Strategies for Running to Lose Weight

As one of the most active exercises out there, running is an extremely efficient way to burn calories and lose weight. A 150-pound person will burn approximately 100 calories per mile when running. 【小题1】
1. Healthy Eating is the First Step

If you want to lose weight by running, keep in mind that you’ll only lose pounds if you burn more calories than you consume. To lose a pound, you have to burn, through exercise or life functions, about 3500 calories. 【小题2】 Runners do have special nutrition needs, but the basic principles for healthy eating still apply. Try choosing smaller portions of high-fat and high-calorie foods and eating more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.

2. Follow a training schedule

Sticking to a training schedule is a simple way to stay motivated to run. 【小题3】 So it’s much harder to postpone or skip workouts. Following a schedule can also help you avoid a running injury by not increasing your mileage too quickly.

3. Run regularly

If you don’t want to follow a schedule, you still need to have some consistency with your running because you won’t lose weight by running once a week. It’s best to get some activity every day. 【小题4】 If you find that your motivation to run is suffering, follow some necessary tips to get inspired.

4. 【小题5】

Incorporating speed work or interval training (running at a very fast speed for short intervals of time) into your running routine can also help your weight loss efforts. Speed work burns a great amount of calories in a short period of time. You’ll also increase your muscle mass, causing you to burn more calories throughout the day.

A.Keep it challenging

Most students seem to have considerable “test anxiety”. 【小题1】 If you do this, you will not be able to show what you are really able to accomplish. Here are some suggestions that you should consider.

【小题2】

Waiting until the night before a test to start studying is likely to increase your anxiety. Instead of waiting until the last minute, start studying as soon as a test is scheduled. With several days or even a week to prepare, you’ll feel more relaxed because you have plenty of time to learn the materials.

Organize your materials

It’s important to gather all of your materials, including your books, notes, and other studying tools before a big exam. Keeping them all in order and handy is a great way to make sure that you can reference and cross reference them. 【小题3】

Review your notes each night.

Reviewing your notes daily will help you to organize the materials for yourself. Don’t expect that your understanding will come during the class. 【小题4】 You need to spend time thinking about the course outside of class.

Get a good night’s sleep before the exam.

Staying up too late the night before an exam is a bad idea, in general. If you do just one thing, this is it: get enough sleep the night before your exam. Sleep, particularly deep sleep, is critical to memory formation. Make it a practice to get a good night’s rest after any intense day of learning and studying. 【小题5】

A.Draw up a schedule.
B.Learning simply doesn’t work that way.
C.Leave yourself plenty of time for studying.
D.Most students suffer mental illness when preparing for a test
E.It will help your brain to keep as much information as possible after a good night’s sleep.
F.Many talk themselves out of doing well before they even have the exam.
G.This will also make your life a lot easier when you are buried in your studying.

Guide to Hiking on the Appalachian Trail

How do I “Leave No Trace on the Appalachian Trail?”

At about 2,189 miles, the Appalachian Trail is the longest single unit of the National Park System. With the number of people visiting this place increasing each year, the chances are great that any of us may damage the natural environment along the Trail and affect the experience for others. So please do your part by following these hiking and camping practices, and encourage others to learn about and adopt these techniques.

1. Plan ahead and prepare.

Evaluate the risks associated with your outing, identify campsites and destinations in advance, and use maps and guides. Prepare for extreme weather, dangers, and emergencies — especially the cold — to avoid impacts from searches, rescues, and campfires. Learn when areas are most crowded and try to avoid those times.

2. Dispose of waste properly.

Pack out all trash and food waste, including that left behind by others. Don’t bury trash or food, and don’t try to burn packaging materials in campfires. Use the privy (茅房) for human waste only. Do not add trash. If there is no privy, dispose of human waste by burying it in a hole, a hole at least 200 feet (80 steps) from campsites, water sources and shelters, and well away from trails.

3. Leave what you find.

Leave plants, cultural artifacts (器物) and other natural objects where you found them for others to enjoy. Do not damage live trees or plants; green wood burns poorly. Collect only firewood that is dead, down, and no larger than your wrist. Leave dead standing trees and dead limbs on standing trees for the wildlife.

4. Minimize campfire impacts.

Use stoves for cooking — if you need a fire, build one only where it’s legal and in an existing fire ring. Keep fires small. Never leave your campfire unattended, and drown it when you leave. Do not try to burn trash, including plastic, glass, cans, tea bags, food, or anything with food on it. These items do not burn thoroughly. They create harmful fumes (烟雾), and attract wildlife like skunks and bears.

5. Respect wildlife.

Don’t feed or disturb wildlife. Store food properly to avoid attracting bears, varmints, and rodents. If you bring a pet, keep it leashed (用皮带系住).
