I worked with children infected(感染) with HIV. The relationships I had with them have been _________in my life. They taught me so many things and I have _________that great courage can be found in the smallest of packages.

Tyler was born with HIV. From the beginning of life, he _________ medicines to survive. When he was five, he had a tube(管子) put in a vein(静脉) in his chest. This _________ was connected to a pump, which he _________ in a small backpack on his back. Medicines were put into this pump and supplied to his blood.

Tyler was _________ to give up one single moment. He often _________ and raced around his backyard, wearing his _________ All of us were surprised at his pure _________ in being alive and the energy it gave him. Tyler's mom said he __________ so fast that she needed to dress him in : red. That way, she could __________ find him.

Eventually, he grew quite ill and so did his mother. When it became __________ that he wasn’t to survive， Tyler’s mom __________ him saying that she would be with him soon in heaven. Days before his death, Tyler asked me to his bed and whispered,“When I die, please dress me in red. Mom __________ to come to heaven. I __________ she can find me.”

I am a volunteer in the Friendly Visiting program. I visit a(n) _______ who does not seem _______ because her son and grandchildren live upstairs with her. _______, she has a special disease and _______ this condition she cannot _______ the house alone. For whatever reasons, her family is too nervous and it's _______ to take her out of the house with her oxygen tank. I admit at first I was _______ too! But she is a fiercely independent lady and can _______ it with ease.

Since her loneliness comes from staying _______ so long, we meet about every other week. We go to IHOP and I get to ________ her amazing stories such as when she first moved to Boston from Ireland, how she first ________ her husband and things about her large family. She often ________ at the end of our meetings, saying I had no ________ to cut in. I am a chatty person but with her all I want to do is ________. Often, her family members have heard these ________ and may take them for granted, but for me they are ________ and interesting. We often stay at IHOP for two hours ________ the free coffee.

It is nice to know that when I stay with her she is not lonely ________. But I also see the real ________ our meetings make. There have been times when, because of her ________ issues, we have not seen one another for a month or two and we miss each other terribly. I feel very lucky to have a friend like her.

Sharaine Caraballo and her husband Wilson met 82-year-old Paul Callahan in March last year when Wilson began working on their recently purchased home. Paul offered Wilson a ladder to work with. From then on, it didn’t take very long for the family of eight and their new neighbor to become _______ .

A retired Texas Instruments manager, Paul’s wife sadly passed away six months before the family moved into the neighborhood. Sharaine thinks her family _______ an important refuge (慰藉) for Paul.

“One of my biggest _______ was meeting our new neighbors. I was _______ who they were going to be and what they were going to be like,” said Sharaine, who is _______ from Pawtucket, New England. “When Paul welcomed us into the neighborhood, I knew I had made the right _______.”

“He was coming over with tools. He’d bring screwdrivers (螺丝刀) and teach Wilson how to fix up the garage and Wilson _______ all his advice,” explained Sharaine. “He’s always coming over with little trinkets (小玩意儿) for the kids. They play with him a lot.”

Paul has ________ the role of de-facto (实际的) grandpa.

Sharaine’s kids love Paul as much as she does and the elderly man makes great ________ to make them feel at home too. As much as Paul has helped the family, Sharaine thinks her family played an important role in the months that followed the passing of Paul’s wife.

“I asked what ________ him to us and he said he was a very ________ person and that he grew up around lots of kids,” Sharaine said. “That’s ________ I grew up. My house was always where everybody ________ out.” He’s also the last of his siblings (兄弟姐妹), who have all passed away.

The Caraballos and Paul now see each other every other day. They spend every holiday together, and this Father’s Day Paul received a present from the family.
