Welcome to Lifeline Bookfest Brisbane, the largest secondhand book sale in Queensland.


OPENING HOURS

9 am—6 pm 26 June—4 July

Early start, 26 June & 27 June, opening at 8 am

Bookfest up late, 2 July, closing at 9 pm


WHAT’S DIFFERENT THIS YEAR?

To keep you safe, Bookfest will be more spread out across three halls (that means no $1 section this year).

Numbers in the halls will be restricted, but don’t worry, we have 18 months’ worth of books to share and we’ll be restocking (补充货源) daily, so you won’t miss out. Once we reach capacity in the halls, it will be one in, one out.

Sales will be card-only. Sorry for kids who were used to spending their saved cash on their favorite books in the past few years.


PRICES

At Bookfest you’ll find a $2.5 section and a High-Quality section. Books in the High-Quality section range from $4 to $25, and our Rare and Collectible books are individually priced.


LAST WORD

You can hire a trolley (推车) at the event to do your shopping ($2 trolley hire).

You can donate new, used or unwanted books. Baskets will be available at the event (next to the entrance) for book donations.

The Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) is dedicated to the enjoyment and appreciation of Jane Austen and her writing. JASNA is a nonprofit organization, staffed by volunteers, whose mission is to foster among the widest number of readers the study, appreciation, and understanding of Jane Austen’s works, her life, and her genius. We have over 5,000 members of all ages and from diverse walks of life. Although most live in the United States or Canada, we also have members in more than a dozen other countries.

JASNA conducts an annual student Essay Contest to promote the study and appreciation of Jane Austen’s writing in new generations of readers. Students worldwide are invited to compete for scholarship awards.

2023 Contest Topic: Marriages and Proposals(求婚)

The 2023 Essay Contest topic is inspired by the theme of our upcoming Annual General Meeting: Pride and Prejudice.

Submissions

The deadline for submissions is Thursday, June 1, 2023. We will begin accepting submissions in February 2023.

Essay Contest Awards

First Place: $1, 000 scholarship, plus free registration and two nights’ lodging (住宿) for JASNA’s 2023 Annual General Meeting in Denver.

Second Place: $500 scholarship.

Third Place: $250 scholarship.

Winners will also receive one year of membership in JASNA, publication of their essays on this website, and a set of Norton Critical Editions of Jane Austen’s novels.

Essay Format

Entries that do not follow the following requirements or arrive after the deadline will be disqualified.

·The essay must be written in English.

·The title of the essay should appear at the top of page one; further pages should be numbered on the top right; the student’s name must not appear on the essay.

·The essay must be 6-8 pages in length.

Every year, toy companies from around the world gather at the Toy Fair. The event this year is magical and exciting. All the toys on show are developed with fun and learning in mind. Here are some of the best items at Toy Fair 2020.

The best toy for babies: Baby Shark Dancing DJ

We have all listened to the Baby Shark song, but that doesn’t mean that kids have fully understood it. The Baby Shark Dancing DJ will be available in the fall. This toy plays five Baby Shark songs and includes two games, so it will be sure to get little feet moving.

The best coding toy for kids: Botley 2.0

The Coding Robot Coding toys had a big year at Toy Fair, especially as kids today are being introduced to coding earlier and earlier. That’s where Botley 2.0 comes in. The latest Botley comes with a remote control with simple commands: forward, back, quarter-turn, and so on. So kids will have to pay attention to their surroundings before entering in the data to get Botley to perform the actions they want.

The best toy for preschoolers: BriteBrush by WowWee

There is nothing like a game to make brushing teeth more fun, and BriteBrush by WowWee is intended to teach kids how to brush their teeth well by using musical games to strengthen good habits and using songs to help kids learn about proper brushing techniques.

The best Star Wars toy: The Child

Baby Yoda, or The Child, swept Toy Fair this year as a must-see item. The Child is as completely lovely as The Mandalorian in the Star Wars.

Museum of the Moving Image (MMI) (Monday Closed)

As the best museum in New York City and with a balance of hands-on (实际操作的) activities and information, it’s the rare bird that can entertain and educate people of different ages. It’s a perfect destination for a family trip of a couple hours.

Pros—Excellent movie screenings. Easy subway access.

Cons—Difficult to reach by Car.

New York Hall of Science (NYHS) (Monday Closed)

Being New York City’s only hand son science and technology center, it is an interactive science museum focusing on its audience of children. It has the most hands-on exhibits in an NYC museum, and it’s a fun destination for ages 5 and up. Older folks might take great interest in the NASA rockets outside the museum, but don’t bother unless you’ve kids to keep you company.

Pros—Cool interactive science exhibits, the rockets.

Cons—Hard to reach by public transportation.

Queens County Farm Museum (QCFM) (Year-round 7 days a week)

It is an actual farm in New York City and home to animals your kids can feed and a yard full of a climbing plant whose fruit can be made into wine. Good chance to meet sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and cows! The animals are mostly readily accessible to visitors. And the museum sells feed for young hands willing to get licked by sheep and goats.

Pros—Outdoor fun.

Cons—Expensive festivals, long bus ride, no subway.

Queens Museum of Art (QMA) (Monday and Tuesday Closed)

Opened in 1972 to serve as a cultural center in New York City, it exhibits art by local and international artists. Its best exhibits are on the two World’s Fairs. and of course,the Panorama of New York City, a giant , highly detailed diorama (透景画) of all five New York City boroughs. 行政区)

Pros—The Panorama, Great gift shop. Easy subway access.

Cons—Not much for kids.
