Around 200 more warriors from ancient China’s Terracotta Army (兵马俑) have been unearthed at the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. The discovery was made during the 【小题1】 (late) round of excavations (挖掘) of No.1 Pit in an area covering 400 square meters.

Shen Maosheng, who led the dig, said most of the newly found warriors can be divided into two groups. One group is carrying poles, while 【小题2】other carries bows.

The Terracotta Army, 【小题3】(build) around 2,200 years ago, was intended to protect Emperor Qin Shi Huang in his afterlife. The army, 【小题4】consists of about 130 chariots, over 500 horses, 8,000 soldiers, was gathered in three main pits near to the emperor’s tomb.

It was first discovered in 1974 by farmers 【小题5】(dig) in northwest China. The tomb is believed 【小题6】(cover) around 38 square miles and, along 【小题7】 the Terracotta Army, contains a large grave of laborers and craftsmen. The 【小题8】(construct) is believed to have taken around 30 years to complete.

Archaeologists started a new excavation at No.1 Pit in 2009. The 200 new warriors 【小题9】(find) as a result of this effort. 【小题10】(science) are still working to understand how this vast army was created.

The Han Dynasty ruled China from 206 B.C. to 220 A.D. The Han Dynasty art and inventions like paper still influence the world today.

Most knowledge of the Han Dynasty art comes from the tombs of ruling families. The Wu Family site in Jiaxiang is one of the most famous. The tomb features 70 carved stones and 【小题3】 (paint) ceilings and walls and various pictures 【小题4】 describe historical characters. The site contained about 3000 examples of Han Dynasty art 【小题5】 (figure), using silver, bronze, gold etc. Two suits with 2000 pieces of jade (玉) in each 【小题6】 (discover) in the tomb. The tomb survived well because the outside areas were not decorated 【小题7】 any special way, but marked only by a large pile of dirt.

Paper was invented in China during the Han Dynasty. The paper-making technique was developed by Cai Lun, 【小题8】 officer attached to the Imperial court, and he made paper a 【小题9】 (common) used writing material. Paper-making technology has promoted the spread of human culture and is a great 【小题10】 (contribute) of the Chinese nation to the world civilization.
