In the spring of 1977, Rick Hoyt told his father, Dick that he wanted to participate in a 5-mile benefit run. Far from being a long-distance runner, Dick _________ to push Rick in his wheelchair and they finished all 5 miles, coming in next to last. That night, Rick told his father, “Dad, when I’m running, it feels like I’m not _________.”

This _________ was just the beginning of what would become over 1,000 races _________. The 2009 Boston Marathon was officially Team Hoyt’s 1000th race. Rick always says if it comes down to doing one _________ a year he would like it to be the Boston Marathon: his _________ race.

2013 was going to be Team Hoyt’s last Boston Marathon together, but they were not able to finish due to the terrorist bombing at the finish line. They _________ to be back in 2014 to finish the race with all the other runners, which they did, _________ many times along the 26.2 distance to take photos and shake hands of the many well-wishers.

Dick and Rick will continue to do shorter distances races together, but teammate Bryan Lyons will be _________in pushing Rick in the 2015 Boston.

Rick was once __________, if he could give his father one thing, what would it be? Rick responded, “The thing I’d most like is for my dad to sit in the chair and I would __________ him for once.”

Racing in support of others less fortunate, devoting their time and energy to __________ others, Team Hoyt continued in that same __________ for 37 years. They proved to everyone that anything can be done with enough __________, devotion, and above all, the bottomless depths of __________ that can be found only in the unique bond between a father and his son.

Despite the fact I had never traveled anywhere alone before, I told vague (模糊的) plans to my parents about going around Europe. Then I _________ the road, carrying a backpack with a random (随意的) selection of T-shirts inside, and _________ $100 in the pocket.

In the last minute, an idea flashed through my mind. I threw in a _________. As I traveled south through the great European cities of Paris, Barcelona and Madrid, not typically _________ the abundance (大量) of fields, I could _________ money by camping. In Madrid, I still remember exploring around an art museum and eating more _________ cheese sandwiches.

Then I boarded a train and _________ south again, this time to _________, a historic city that’s home to the _________ Alhambra Palace. It was only as Granada’s station approached in the golden light of early evening that I realized it was the start of the __________. No banks would be open, and once again I was __________ cash or anywhere to stay. What happened next remains till this day one of the most __________ things I have ever experienced.

When I told a young student I had been __________ on the train about my trouble, she invited me to stay with the Spanish pen pals she was visiting in Granada. She had never even met them before, but when she asked if I could __________ my tent in their garden, they instead welcomed me into their apartment and offered me a sofa to sleep on. Not only that, but __________ the next three nights, they fed me, bought me beers, acted as my tour guide, but __________ any attempt to pay them back when the banks __________ on my final day in the town.

Now I’m still __________ by the extent of their hospitality (好客). Over the years since, I’ve tried to __________ the same to others. Even so, I can’t imagine I would ever let a 24-year-old version of me into my home, not to mention __________.

As we all know, a friend in need is a friend in deed. I really didn’t know the meaning of this proverb (谚语) until one day something_________happened to me.
