China’s Liangzhu Archaeological Site 【小题1】 (declare) a World Heritage Site on Saturday by UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee during its 43rd session in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The site, 【小题2】 is located in Yuhang District in Hangzhou City in China’s eastern Zhejiang Province, showcases the civilization of prehistoric rice agriculture between 3300 BC 【小题3】 2300 BC. The ruins of ancient Liangzhu city were discovered in 2007, and then large dam sites 【小题4】 (surround) the Liangzhu ancient city were unearthed continuously after 2009.It was 【小题5】 (official) submitted to UNESCO in 2019, hoping to win 【小题6】 (recognise) as a World Cultural Heritage Site. The site 【小题7】 (include) archaeological remains and unearthed cultural relics of the Liangzhu Ancient City as well as a wetland that covers 【小题8】 area of 908.89 hectares in a plain river network. It is also found that the Liangzhu ancestors started to use characters about 5,000 years ago, 1,000 years 【小题9】 (early) than previously thought, according to Colin Renfrew, a retired professor of archaeology at the University of Cambridge.

The World Heritage Committee added Liangzhu to the UNESCO list 【小题10】 (encourage) better protection of the site, which is considered to be of “outstanding universal value” to humanity.

The Sanxingdui Ruins in Southwest China’s Sichuan province, together with the Jinsha Ruins in Chengdu, will apply for(申请) World Cultural Heritage status(世界文化遗产).

The Sanxingdui Ruins in the city of Guanghan, are thought to be one of the 【小题1】 (great) archeological(考古学的) finds of the 20th century. The ruins 【小题2】 (cover) an area of 12 square km are believed to be the remnants(遗迹) of the Shu Kingdom, dating back some 4,800 years.

The site was accidentally discovered by a farmer 【小题3】 he was digging a ditch in the 1920s. In 1986, a large number of unique relics were found in the No 1 and No 2 pits, 【小题4】 arouse global interest.

The discovery of Sanxingdui 【小题5】(raise) an important question about the origin of Chinese civilization(文明). Before the 1980s, it is thought 【小题6】 the birthplace of Chinese civilization was in the Yellow River Basin in north China.

However, with the discovery of important 【小题7】(relic) in the Yangtze River Basin, including Liangzhu, Shijiahe and Sanxingdui, a new understanding came 【小题8】 being. The ancient Shu civilization 【小题9】 (represent) by Sanxingdui has been regarded as 【小题10】 important part of the origin of Chinese civilization.

The Maritime Silk Road Museum of Guangdong (MSRMG) in Yangjiang, South China’s Guangdong Province, is China’s first museum to focus 【小题1】 underwater archaeology (考古学). The museum has become the home of the ancient ship, now known as the Nanhai I, and continues to tell the story of the Maritime Silk Road 【小题2】 began 800 years ago.

“Unlike many other Chinese museums that contain 【小题3】(various) of relics, the MSRMG is dedicated to Nanhai I culture,” museum expert Li Yiyang said.

Ye Daoyang, the deputy director of MSRMG’s Underwater Archaeology and Technology Department, said that the Nanhai I will 【小题4】(eventual) become closer and closer to people. During the excavation of the sunken ship, visitors have been able to witness the slow reveal of the ship, once 【小题5】(reveal) only 1 meter of the hull (船体). “The entire body of the Nanhai I 【小题9】(display) fully to visitors soon. This is a landmark stage. Such rich underwater resources have encouraged museums like the MSRMG to improve its facilities 【小题10】(protect) these relics while finding creative means to introduce them to the public,” Ye noted.
