Good neighbors are a lot like electricity or running water: We don’t know how much we depend on them until we don’t have them. 【小题1】 Here is how to develop your relationships with these very important people in your life.

• Reach out to the newcomers.

These days, the old Welcome Wagon (欢迎礼车) is a thing of the past. 【小题2】 If they have kids, tell them where the children in the neighborhood live. Introduce the best places to eat and sleep. Invite them over for coffee or tea when they get settled, give them your number, and point to your house as you say good-bye.

• Avoid causing inconvenience.

Return anything that you borrow from a neighbor, such as tools, in good condition as soon as you’ve finished with them. Replace anything that belongs to your neighbor if damaged. 【小题3】 Such acts of consideration will have your neighbors talking—and the talk will be good.

• Make time for friendships.

If you value a friendship with your neighbors, spend time with them. Better yet, you might even consider throwing a get-together in their honor. Deliver the invitations in person to everyone who lives on your street and chat with each for five minutes before moving on to the next house. 【小题4】 So you can plan for proper food and music.

【小题5】

Help to bring in the mail for the elderly neighbor when there is a heavy rain. When your neighbor forgets to take in his rubbish cans, roll them back into his yard. If you’re truly concerned, you’ll give a bunch of flowers or a helping hand when it’s needed. All it takes to develop your relationship with neighbors is the respect for their feelings.

A.Care about details.
B.Show interest in their life
C.They make our lives more pleasant.
D.Your new neighbors are good listeners.

Most heroes are not super. They don’t appear in comic books, on television, or in movies. They just do what they believe needs to be done to make their world a better place. Bike Batman is one of them.

Bike Batman is a 30-year-old married engineer who lives in Seattle, Washington. He’s a cyclist who also buys and sells bikes as a hobby.

About three years ago, he was looking for a bike for his wife. He found one on Craigslist, a website where people list things they want to sell. As he often does, he also looked at Bike Index, a popular website that allows users to register their bikes and post reports when they’re taken. The bike, which he was considering purchasing, clearly matched one reported stolen on Bike Index. Then he called the person who claimed to be the bike’s owner and arranged to meet him— supposedly to complete the sale. When the two men met, Bike Batman told the thief, “You’ve got two options. You can wait until a police officer gets here, or you can just get out of here.” You can imagine what the thief did.

After that first success, Bike Batman developed a safer routine. When he sees questionable bike ads on Craigslist, he cross-references the image with bikes reported on Bike Index. Once he has confirmed it with the owner, he arranges a meet-up with the thief and will call the Seattle police department so that officers can participate in the action. In more than half of the 22 cases in which he has got back and returned bikes, the thieves have been arrested. In one case, Bike Batman even helped a family recover a wide range of prized possessions that suspects had stolen during a home burglary.

His nickname came from a discussion with a police officer who suggested he be called “Robin Hood”. Since he wasn’t exactly stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, “Batman” seemed a better fit. The idea of a superhero punishing criminals feels pretty silly to him, but the main reason he continues his work is to keep up Seattle’s reputation as a friendly city.

People have been told to stay separated — at least six feet apart— and to practice what state and local officials call “social distancing”. Some have been asked to work at home. But as people try to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus( 新型冠状病毒), the resulting chaos and fear are bringing both large and small communities closer.

Simple acts of kindness are sprouting up online and in public, as neighbors, students, teachers, and others begin to connect those who can pass this long and isolating time smoothly, and the people who may not have the means to get through.

For Jesse Farren-James, helping out has taken the form of organizing trips to the

supermarkets for supplies, and use of her membership card if anyone needs to buy large quantities. She posted the offer in a Facebook group for the community residents, and some people came and turned to her. “I just feel so lucky that I have so many people in my life to rely on and so sad that not everyone has that,” she wrote in the group. In another interview, Farren-James said the “community is coming together" and “there are so many good and amazing people” offering to help where they can.

Also, parents in Dorchester have gathered together online. In a Facebook group called DotParents, parents have been raising money to buy food and supplies for students and families in the community. Lisa Graustein has been organizing this activity. On Thursday, she used the more than $2,000 raised by neighbors to purchase food in a restaurant supply company. A group of volunteers packed the food and planned to distribute to schools for those who may need it.

“Food shortage is real in our city and this crisis is going to be severe.” Graustein said. “But here's something we can do that deal better with the hard time”. This idea is spreading. She said friends in four other states had being running similar campaigns. Next, she wants to find a way to get landlords to temporarily abandon rent for residents in financial difficulties because of the outbreak.

Paying it forward is a concept that involves doing something good for someone in response to a good deed done on your behalf or a gift you received. When you pay it forward, however, you don't repay the person who did something nice for you. Instead, you do something nice for someone else.

Recently, an inspiring note found inside a random book has inspired thousands of people to pay it forward.

Ashley Jost was shopping at Target when a book caught hex eye. The 27-year-old bought the book Girl Stop Apologizing and began reading it when she got home. After a few minutes her dog started barking so she put the book aside. When she got back, she noticed something on the ground. "A five-dollar note fell out, " Jost said.

She looked through the book, and in one of the last pages, there was a note that read, “To the person who buys this book: I am having a tough day. I thought maybe I could brighten someone else’s with this little surprise. Go and buy a coffee, a hamburger or a face mask. Practice some self care today. Remember that you are loved, you are amazing, and you are strong -Lisa”

Jost decided to post a photo of the note and the money on Twitter and it went like a virus. People are promising their own random acts of kindness.

“In that moment,I didn’t necessarily need the pick-me-up,but I feel obligated(有义务的)to share it, and I’m hearing back from people who did,” Jost said. “The ripple effect is pretty unbelievable.

After seeing her Twitter post, Lisa mailed Jost a card. "She said it made her cry in a good way,” Jost said. But Lisa still didn’t give away who she was. She left no return address. Lisa wrote it had been a difficult time in her life and she just wanted "to create something positive-she never really expected this to happen the way it has.”
