Since the earliest time, philosophy(哲学) has inspired new ideas and 【小题1】 (concept), with the aim of encouraging independence，creativity and original thought.

UNESCO established World Philosophy Day in 2002 to encourage philosophical reflection worldwide.Now it is held on the third Thursday of November every year．It is a day that【小题2】( observe) publicly, although it’s not 【小题3】 public holiday anywhere in the world.

The day’s purpose is to encourage people 【小题4】 (share)their thoughts, discuss new concepts frankly and debate the challenges 【小题5】 (face) today’s society. It’s also a time to celebrate and share mankind’s philosophical heritage(遗产), and for opening your mind 【小题6】   new ideas．The initiative is 【小题7】 (wide) marked across the world, in countries as diverse as Turkey, Chile, France and Morocco among others.

UNESCO’s major belief is 【小题8】 philosophy offers should be present in all subjects that try to create a 【小题9】 (great) understanding of the modern world and its challenges.

Philosophy provides the conceptual basis for the values and principles shaping the potential for world peace—human rights, justice and 【小题10】 (equal)．Reflection on modern society’s problems and still-to-be-answered questions remains at the core of philosophical thinking.

People say Vancouver is Canada’s most beautiful city, 【小题1】(surround) by mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The trees are extremely high, some 【小题2】(measure) over 90 meters. As for Calgary, it is famous for the Calgary Stampede. Cowboys come to compete and many of them have a gift 【小题3】 riding wild horses and can win thousands of dollars in prizes.

When I was an international student in China, I was lucky to experience Chinese New Year. The build-up was exciting as everywhere 【小题1】(decorate) with red.

Some fellow students and I  decided to travel from Xi’an to Guilin for the festival. Travel during that time is quite 【小题2】adventure — many people journey home 【小题3】(see) their families and everywhere is very busy.

On the eve of New Year, we watched the CCTV New Year’s Gala. Although we didn’t really understand everything, it was good to be lost 【小题4】the atmosphere of the occasion! At New Year, families make 【小题5】(taste) dumplings together as part of the celebrations. On New Year’s Day, and for several weeks afterwards, you can hear firecrackers and fireworks everywhere, and the air 【小题6】(smell) strongly of dynamite(火药) and smoke. This was adventurous for us!

Being in China during New Year somewhat meant 【小题7】(lonely) though it was a great experience. I can 【小题8】(absolute) explain it with how international students in the UK might feel at Christmas if 【小题9】(have) no loved ones around them.

Overall, my first Chinese New Year was an amazing experience 【小题10】I’ll never forget.
