Baseball is known as the national entertainment in America. As children, many Americans play baseball in Little League teams. Later, some go on to play in Major League Baseball teams. 【小题1】

The game itself is fairly easy to play. There are two teams of nine players each. 【小题2】   These bases are about 30 meters apart and are known as first base, second base, third base and home. The part of the field closest to the bases is called the infield. The part further away is the outfield.

During the game, a pitcher ( 投手) from one team throws a ball to a batter (the person holding a baseball bat) from the opposing team. The batter, who is standing on the home plate, tries to hit the ball and run around the bases. 【小题3】 The main objective is to score more runs than the opposing team.

The first recorded game was played in 1846 in Hoboken, New Jersey. And since then, baseball has grown in popularity. 【小题4】 Some of the most famous players from the past include Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Hank Greenberg, and Jackie Robinson.

Famous modern players include Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter who play for the New York Yankees, Manny Ramirez who plays for the Tampa Bay Rays, Joe Mauer who plays for the Minnesota Twins, and Albert Pujols who plays for the St Louis Cardinals. A player doesn’t have to be from the state he plays for, so baseball teams are very diverse. 【小题5】 Every year, the teams trade players.

Entry: Going for the prize is easy. Build an Alka Rocket. Send it skyward with fuel made only of effervescent tablets and water. And record it all in a video, which you share over social media with the Alka Rocket Challenge. So we can keep track. Please also email the links to your social media posts to alkarocket@sciam. com.

Entry Period: From November 1st, 2020 until December 31st, 2020.

Rocket Requirements: Rockets must be less than one foot in height and six inches in width. They must use only effervescent tablets and water as fuel.For more on how to build a basic Alka Rocket, you can watch the handy video.

Judging Criteria; The judges will award the winner and two runners-up on the basis of creativity of rocket design, the launch and video submission.

Safety (super important!!!): Rockets can be dangerous—even ones powered by effervescent tablets. Any project considered remotely dangerous to humans or the environment will be immediately disqualified.

Notes: Competitors must be American citizens and aged 13 or older. And any competitor under the age of 18 needs to email us a signed parental permission form when he or his team sends us the links to social posts.

We book the pitch (球场) when we hit the minimum of 8 “yes” RSVPs (回复), which we need to do by the day before.

The cost is £ 4 to £ 6 each, depending on how many sign up (£ 50 for the pitch, divided by the number of players)

DONT BE LATE! We need to be there, changed and ready for kick - off at 9: 00 P. M. If the game is ever cancelled, we will let those who have already RSVP “yes” know.

PLEASE BRING:

• Suitable boots for the outdoor 3G pitches. Artificial grass (AG) football boots are strongly recommended as the best option for the surface.

• Some cash — up to £ 6, as explained above.

RSVPTERMS AND CONDITIONS!

• When you RSVP “Yes”, we book a spot on the pitch for you. The organizer is charged for the pitch unless they cancel it at least 48 hours before the game.

• If you change your RSVP to “No” less than 48 hours before play or you are a “No Show” and nobody is able to take your spot, you will be asked to pay the price as if you took part.

BRINGING GUESTS:

You are more than welcome to bring 1 or 2 friends to play (but only if you add “+1” or “+2” to your RSVP, so that we don’t end up with too many players).
