Frank and his brother Jack lived near the ocean. Frank was outgoing while Jack was shy. They liked doing different things. Frank was famous for organizing games of beach volleyball, football, and any other sport imaginable. Jack loved to draw, paint, or build sandcastles (沙堡).

Frank didn’t understand why Jack would rather do artistic things than play ball. He believed sports often allowed many kids to play together. That was when Jack’s idea hatched. He would show Frank what doing things together looked like!

After Jack finished creating a special sandcastle with stairs, towers and walls, he took pictures of it. Then he painted colorful posters featuring (突出) his sandcastle and the question, “Can you top this?” He hung his posters everywhere in town, announcing his plan for a day of sandcastle artistry—all ages welcome.

When Frank saw posters, he not so nicely told Jack that no one would come. Still, shortly after sunrise on Saturday, Jack was on the beach digging in the sand. By mid-morning, four kids were sculpting (雕塑) the sand alongside him. By noon, the number had increased a lot.

After Frank came back from his ball game, he went to check how his brother’s plan turned out. He couldn’t believe what he saw. At least 30 people were building a city of sandcastles, and everyone was chatting and laughing and working together! It was the most beautiful thing he had seen on the beach.

“I guess you’ve proved me wrong,” Frank said. “You should make this sandcastle day a yearly tradition!” Handing Frank a shovel (铲子) with a smile, Jack got started together with his brother on their super creation in the sand.

Audio digital (有声数字化)books are becoming more andmore popular these years. One of the reasons for this is that audio digital books can be “read”in many places comfortably.

The first favorite place for many people is in bed, before going to sleep. There are nights when a person would want to do nothing but lie in bedgoing over what has happenedin the day. Many people like to just lie in bed in the dark before they fall asleep at night. This wouldbe the perfect time to listen to an audio digital book. If you read an ordinary book, the lights have to be turned on and you have to turn the pages with your hand. An audio book can just be listened to while a person stays comfortably in bed.

The next favorite place to listen to audio digital books would be in the kitchen. For some people kitchen work is boring. Audio digital books provide good entertainment, and people don’t need to turn pages.

An audio digital book is a favorite while a person is gardening. They can help take a person’s mind off job at hand. It can be fun and exciting to do gardening with the help of these books.

Another great place would be while exercising. It allows the mind to be free while the legs, body and arms are kept busy. This would be a great place to listen to these books.

We’ve all heard the phrase “use your time wisely” in our lives. How can we use our time “wisely”? In an increasingly urbanizing world, we are busier, required to do more to get into college or other higher academic institutions, or to get a job and do well at it. Because of that, things we do to relax, like reading a book, going out with friends or napping, are becoming rarer.

Doing something that doesn’t quite directly help you reach your goal (like the things for relaxation) is often viewed as “wasting your time” because we only have limited time. But even if relaxing or having fun takes time away from being “productive”, they shouldn’t be considered “a waste of time”. If we don’t do things for fun, what is there to enjoy in life?

There have been numerous studies indicating how relaxation and going out with friends can improve your mental and physical health. Being able to take part in an enjoyable hobby or spend time with someone you enjoy being around can help release “feel good” hormones (荷尔蒙) that can reduce some stress in your daily life, thus improving physical health in the long run.

But of course, as a part-time hypocrite (伪善者) on this topic, sometimes when I find myself enjoying a book, playing a video game, or scrolling on TikTok, I get this awful feeling instantly after that I could have used that time to do something productive like taking textbook notes or finishing an assignment. Or maybe I would go out with my friends during the day and come back to my dorm just to think about how I could have used that time to study for an upcoming exam. We’ve all been there.

However, even if it isn’t evident, doing those little things prevents us from burning out too fast. It creates some positive memories hanging in your mind that will hopefully get you through a tough patch. You need to relax in order to be productive later on. The popular concept of a work-life balance also tells us you should do things that you enjoy to keep the balance, and therefore, would not be considered “a waste of time”.

Saving money for the future is one of the great passions of wealthy people. The rich are getting richer because of the way they spend their money and successful habits of controlling their expenses. Warren Buffett is considered one of the most successful investors (投资者) in the world and his money totals over $105.2 billion as of November 2021. Well aware of the benefits of saving money, he is not fond of buying expensive things and always practices spending money wisely.

Did you know that Mark Zuckerberg, one of the youngest billionaires and co-founders of Facebook, is a great saver? His wedding was held in the backyard in Palo Alto, California, rather than in a fancy five-star hotel. During the couple’s honeymoon in Italy many people saw them eating in McDonald’s. This guy is still wearing ordinary T-shirts to work every day. Saving money is important to him to grow his wealth and grow it quickly. He uses extra money to put into other businesses and investments. With your savings you can immediately start investing. However, if you are overspending your income, there is no money left for investment.

“The man with extra money controls circumstances and the man without it is controlled by circumstances.” said Henry Buckley. Saving money for the future gives you protection for unexpected circumstances. You don’t know what will happen to you over the next days or weeks. If you lose your job, you can still survive while looking for a job because you have your savings. You will not stress out if there is an emergency because you have money to spend.

And living below your means can give you plenty of room to save. You can use your savings to pay off your house loan early. You can also pay down your debts from friends, family and even other lenders. The bigger you have saved, the earlier you can achieve debt-free life. Also, people who are fond of saving money for the future can retire early. These are the people who are thinking about their future dream life without pressure after 10 years or 20 years.

Saving money for the future is essential. Today will not be the same as tomorrow. You don’t know when the rainy season will come. Every day is full of surprises, and to be ready for uncertainty, save now for your future.
