At the Tube Station, I see the title “Hot! Hot! Hot!” from a free newspaper. Today, the temperature in London is expected 【小题1】 (reach) 30 plus degrees. It is going to be awful 【小题2】 the Central Line. Going down the stairs and onto the platform is like jumping into a volcano that is erupting. I think of my office, 【小题3】 is in a tall, glass building. One very hot summer, the 【小题4】 (reflect) sunshine melted cars parked below! Each summer in London seems 【小题5】 (hot) than the last. Perhaps it is time to start planning for the future: Once the tall buildings 【小题6】 (flood), I will be able to survive. Most 【小题7】 (important), I will need to learn to swim! Looking through my newspaper I’m shocked by photos showing that a hurricane in Asia 【小题8】 (destroy) a town. Experts say this bad weather has occurred due to climate change. Now that it is hard to avoid a disaster on Earth, perhaps I should start thinking about moving to space... “【小题9】 next station is Bank!” comes the 【小题10】 (announce), and it interrupted my thoughts.

A young couple moved into a new neighborhood. The next morning, they 【小题1】 (eat) breakfast, when the young wife saw her neighbor hang the wash outside.

“That laundry(洗衣物) is not very clean,” she said to her husband. “The neighbor doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs 【小题2】 (good) laundry soap.” Her husband looked on, but remained 【小题3】 (silence). Every time her neighbor hung her wash 【小题4】 (dry), the young woman would make 【小题5】 same comments. About one month 【小题6】 (late), the young woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on her neighbor's line and said to her husband, “Look! She has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder 【小题7】 taught her this?”

The husband said, “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows!”

Can you see how it might be a good idea to check first to see if your windows are clean? What we see when 【小题8】 (watch) others depends on the purity(清洁) of the windows through 【小题9】we look.

Before we give any criticism(批评), it might be a good idea to check our state of mind and ask 【小题10】 (we) if we are ready to see the good rather than just look for something wrong in the people we met.

It was a cold winter day that Sunday. The parking lot to the church filled up quickly. I noticed, as I got out of my car, fellow church members 【小题1】 (whisper) among themselves as they walked in the church.

As I got closer, I saw a man leaning up against the wall outside the church. He was almost lying down 【小题2】 he were asleep. His hat was pulled down so you 【小题3】 not see his face. He wore shoes 【小题4】 looked 30 years old, too small for his feet, with holes all over them, his toes stuck out.

I guessed this man was homeless and asleep, so I walked on by through the doors of the church. We all talked for a few minutes, and someone mentioned the man 【小题5】 (lie) outside. People whispered but no one took trouble 【小题6】 (ask) him to come in, including me.

A few minutes later church began. We all waited for the preacher to take his place and to give us the Word, when the doors to the church opened. In came the man walking down the church with his head down. People gasped and whispered and made faces. He made his way down the church and up onto the pulpit (讲坛) 【小题7】 he took off his hat and coat. My heart sank.

There 【小题8】 (stand) our preacher... he was 【小题9】 “homeless man”. The preacher took his Bible and laid it on his stand. “Folks, I don’t think I have to tell you 【小题10】 I am preaching today. If you judge people by their appearance, you have no time to love them.”
