After her college closed for the first lockdown(封控) in March 2020,Finty Royle was looking for something to do in her community to help people. When a local company said that it【小题1】(want) someone to deliver free meals for families【小题2】need, it was perfect for Royle. She cycled 25 miles around her area every day to hand out the meals. Speaking to The Week Junior, she said, “The children got【小题3】(extreme) excited to see me every day. There was even one family who had drawn【小题4】picture in chalk of someone cycling through a rainbow in front of their house.”

Royle, aged 19, has now become a youth campaigner for a charity called Magic Break-fast,【小题5】aims to provide pupils across the UK with【小题6】(health) breakfasts to help them learn as well as they can at school. She says the best【小题7】(choose) for breakfast is porridge because it’s good for you and it keeps you【小题8】(go) for the whole morning.

Magic Breakfast’s youth campaigners, including Royle, have written to Prime Minister to ask him to increase the Government’s funding for free school breakfasts by £75 million. As food prices rise across the UK, more families may find it hard to afford school meals. Royle believes it is meaningful to do what you can【小题9】(help) your local community and what you do can also change【小题10】(you).

On his first day of kindergarten last September, four-year-old Alex Johnson waited excitedly with his mother 【小题1】 the school bus. When the school bus pulled up, however, the kindergartner suddenly became anxious and began crying. It was heartbreaking for Alex’s mother, Amy Johnson, 【小题2】(see) her son in tears.

“I got him on the bus,” Amy recalled. “He held my hand 【小题3】(firm) and wouldn’t let me go off the bus. 【小题4】 is what the bus driver Isabel Lane did, so small but meaningful, that changed everything.” The kind-hearted young woman 【小题5】(seat) Alex next to her and offered a comforting hand for the boy to hold. Touched by what she was seeing, Amy brought out her phone and took the photo of Lane and Alex holding 【小题6】(hand) on the bus. “Thanks to Lane’s kindness, my son now looks forward to taking the school bus, 【小题10】 is more amazing.” said Amy.

For the past 13 years, Martin Burrows has been working as a long-distance truck driver. Spending up to five nights a week on the road can be a lonely business, 【小题1】 (leave) him with plenty of time to notice his surroundings. “I kept seeing more rubbish everywhere and it was getting on my nerves. I decided I had to do something about it,” he says. One day, he stopped his vehicle, 【小题2】 (take) out a trash bag and started picking up the garbage. The satisfaction after clearing a small area was extremely 【小题3】 (remark).

Before his time on the road, Burrows spent over two decades in the military【小题4】 a vehicle driver. His service saw him stationed throughout Europe and also on tours in Afghanistan. After returning to civilian life, he was diagnosed with PTSD (创伤后应激障碍) and had to experience situations 【小题5】 his mental health suffered a lot in 2017. His 【小题6】 (contribute) in fund-raising for Help for Heroes led him 【小题7】 (meet) a man who used model-building as a distraction from PTSD. Burrows realized that his act of roadside cleanup had a similar calming effect on his mental well-being

By 2019, Burrows 【小题8】 (begin) using his free time on the road to regularly clean up garbage. Some【小题9】 (passer-by) encouraged him to set up a Facebook group, which he called Truckers Cleaning Up Britain. Since truckers are so often on the move, the Facebook page acts as 【小题10】 means of raising awareness rather than a platform for organizing cleanups. Burrows expressed his intention to continue the cleanup efforts as long as his physical condition allowed, as he still found joy in the process.
