Honestly speaking, I’m not a huge fan of TV. When I’m at leisure, I’d rather browse some websites or enjoy a nice movie online. Anyhow, I do have a favorite TV 【小题1】—“Happy Dictionary”, which is a quiz show. In this program, a wide range of 【小题2】 are offered to the winners. It’s kind of like “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”, a famous quiz show in America.

In the beginning, the hostess will introduce the five【小题3】. Then they will be presented a question. The one who answers the question correctly and quickly will be given an opportunity to take the quiz. The quiz is divided into three or four 【小题4】, I can’t remember exactly how many right now. Anyway, the contestant can get each prize after going through each stage. The prizes are randomly decided by participant himself before the quiz, e.g. a computer, a laptop, a digital camera, a free package holiday, things like that. There are three questions in each stage, The way the hostess asks these questions makes the quiz more difficult. For example, when the contestant has given an answer, the hostess will confuse him by asking whether he is sure or not. Someone might at this time change the 【小题5】 answer into a wrong one. I really enjoy this part. The contestant can 【小题6】 help for only three times during the whole procedure by calling a friend, 【小题7】 the audience to vote for the right answer or letting the computer erase one of the wrong answer. Most of the questions are multiple choices.

This program 【小题8】 lasts for an hour and is usually 【小题9】 at 9:00 pm. For all these years, I think I have 【小题10】 a lot from watching this quiz show. Unlike all the sitcoms (情景剧), this is the kind of program in which I can get to participate and rack my brains (苦思冥想).

For those who have seen War for the Planet of the Apes, it’s easy to come to this conclusion — this movie isn’t about war or the planet, and it’s not【小题1】 even about the apes.

Being the third in the trilogy (三部曲), War for the Planet of the Apes takes us back to a familiar world from【小题2】 films. A pandemic (流行病)has greatly reduced the human population while【小题3】 the intelligence of apes. Humans, led by the Colonel, want to survive by killing the apes, and the apes, led by an ape named Caesar, also try to fight their way to live.

With a story that should be full of【小题4】 and violence, War for the Planet of the Apes takes a different【小题5】—it only has small pockets of action and most of the film consists of quiet conservation. While recent sci-fi movies have become known for their action scenes. War for the Planet of the Apes has taken science fiction in a thoughtful and 【小题6】direction.

In order to survive, characters, good or bad, all have to make their decisions. They all wander in a moral gray area where evil acts are【小题7】 for understandable reasons and characters we【小题8】 with have serious flaws. Movie grants him.

For example, we would find the Colonel to be nothing but evil at the beginning of the film since his ambition is to kill every ape in【小题9】. But the movie grants him his reasons. He has a long conservation with Caesar in the middle of the film, in which he explains his ideas and his personal history, so that we have a glimpse into a【小题10】personality.

Mad Science

Until relatively recently, popular media neglected fact-checking and mostly offered negative, mad scientist-oriented stereotypes. A survey of more than a thousand horror films from 1931 to 1984 found that a third 【小题1】 “scientists or their creations as villains or monsters,” while merely 11 percent painted them as heroes. Later, a 2003 study【小题2】 concluded that even “good” movie scientists (across genres) commonly succumbed to evil and corruption.

Onscreen researchers also typically 【小题3】 complex storylines, or even details of their personal lives, the 2003 article found. That’s a problem because most people don’t know scientists themselves and form opinions based on the media they consume, leading to a dehumanizing effect.

Factual errors and 【小题4】 portrayals have real-world consequences. As of 1981, people who frequently watched TV were more likely than 【小题5】 viewers to mistrust science, view it as dangerous and reject the entire career 【小题6】.

That’s the primary reason why researchers work on Hollywood projects: to 【小题7】 these misconceptions.

Satisfyingly, 【小题8】 has improved in recent decades, likely because it’s far more common to recruit science consultants. Now, audience expect more 【小题9】 explanations behind far-out plots. These days, it’s now impossible for films to get away with these silly stereotypes, unless it’s a horror film or comedy. Hollywood now tends to heroize scientists, but glorifying the profession also has its 【小题10】 : It may obscure the fact that researchers are human and can make human mistakes too.
