Are you a moviegoer? If, like me, you're a fan of film, then there's no better place to watch something than on the big screen at the cinema. You enter the dark auditorium and take your seat, ready to【小题1】(entertain). But while you engross yourself in some movie magic, now many others are 【小题2】(get) their film fix at home.

Over the last few years, cinemas 【小题3】(see) a resurgence. Customers have been enticed by comfortable seats, and lots of choice of things to watch. Multiplexes in particular can screen up to twenty films at the same time, 【小题4】(cater) for all different tastes. In addition, 3D and even 4D movies can give the audience an extra immersive experience. So, what's not to like about a trip to the cinema?

One answer to that question is convenience. Rather than 【小题5】(go)out, it's so much easier to stay in and【小题6】(watch) a romcom or action movie on a high-definition TV screen via a streaming service such as Netflix or Amazon Prime. There's plenty of choice, and it's relatively cheap as well. But, personally, I find there are too many distractions, and watching at home is not such an event. I miss the trailers too!

But the coronavirus pandemic【小题7】(put) the future of cinemas under the spotlight. Some have had to close because of reduced ticket sales. And in the UK, it's brought about a surge in TV watching and online streaming, according to media watchdog, Ofcom. It also found that half of UK adults will keep and continue【小题8】 (use) their new streaming subscriptions.

This isn't great news for cinemas. They rely on the release of a big blockbuster to bring the crowds back, but the launch of new films, such as James Bond: No Time To Die,【小题9】(delay). And Disney has released its $200m blockbuster, Mulan, online instead of in movie theatres. But John Fithian, from the National Association of Theatre Owners, told Variety magazine: “This idea of waiting out the pandemic to make your movies more profitable 【小题10】( make) sense to me. There won't be as much of an industry left to play your movies in if you do that.”

Named after the ancient city of Chang’an in Shaanxi province, which 【小题1】(serve) as the capital of the Tang Dynasty for over 280 years, the epic film spans 168 minutes — the longest runtime of any Chinese animated movie — and brings to life some of the most iconic figures in Chinese literary history. Since 【小题2】 release on July 8, the movie has earned a rating of 8.2 out of ten on Douban, solidifying its position 【小题3】 one of the most acclaimed animated blockbusters (大片) of the summer season.

Despite Li and Du 【小题4】(feature) in many movies and TV shows, the movie employs an unconventional perspective, starting with the memories of Gao Shi, 【小题5】(relate) the ups and downs of Li’s life, one of the country’s most beloved poet. Interweaving the personal 【小题6】(fate) of these figures, the film vividly presents the magnificent scenes of the Tang Dynasty. It showcases the bustling streets of ancient Chang’an, the 【小题7】(energy) and prosperous city of Yangzhou, as well as the harsh and snowy borderlands in northwestern China.

The movie also beautifully captures the free-spirited nature of the Tang Dynasty. For instance, in the national civil service examination, the 【小题8】(high) achievers are granted the privilege to ride magnificent horses and pick the most exquisite flower from any residence in the capital city. 【小题9】(addition), poets would visit local taverns (酒馆), 【小题10】 they would enjoy foreign dancers’ fascinating movements and melodious singing, while tasting wine and crafting verses of poetry.

As an epic (史诗) 【小题1】 brings back to life some of the most famous poets from the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the highly 【小题2】 (expect) animated movie Chang’an held its premiere (首映) in 【小题3】was once its namesake city, now known as Xi’an, the provincial capital of Shaanxi province on July 2.

Produced by Light Chaser Animation, a Beijing-based animated studio known for its focus on tales inspired by traditional culture and mythology, the movie 【小题4】 (earn) a total box office of 1.824 billion yuan and 【小题5】 audience of 44.155 million so far, ranking second in the current mainland animation film history.

Xie Junwei, who co-directs the movie with Zou Jing, says that he made multiple trips to Xi’an in search of inspiration during the production, 【小题9】 (add) that the small statues and ancient paintings exhibited at the Shaanxi History Museum provided them with 【小题10】 (value) ideas for the film.
