The days of elderly women doing nothing but cooking huge meals on holidays are gone.

Enter the Red Hat Society-a group dedicated to the new concept 【小题1】 old ladies should have fun.

"My grandmothers did 【小题2】but keep house and serve everybody. They were programmed to do that," said Emils Comette, founder of a chapter of the 7-year-old Red Hat Society. The group has chapters in all 50 U.S. states and 25 countries.

While men have long spent their time fishing and playing golf, women have sometimes seemed to become invisible as they 【小题3】(age). But the generation now turning 50 is the baby boomers , and the same people who refused their parents' way of being young are now trying a new way of growing old.

With a bit of disposable income and 【小题4】(good) health compared with the past generation for most elderly into the mix,the Red Hat Society starts to look almost inevitable.

“This is something for me,” Cornette said.She kept an eagle eye out for guests with empty cups or plates that needed 【小题5】(refill).”There aren’t any rules,really.We are doing 【小题6】 can’t be imagined by old-time women.We are just looking for fun.

According to its founder Cooper,she 【小题7】(inspire) when she saw a poem by Jenny Joseph that begins:“When I am an old woman,I shall wear purple with a red hat which doesn’t go."

Cooper gave her friend a copy of the poem,along with a red hat,【小题8】 served as the symbol of the organization. Soon other women wanted red hats,and they 【小题9】(attract) thousands of participants since then.

"The point of this is that we women could have fun for ourselves instead of doing things just for others," Cooper said in a telephone interview. “We are forming a little society 【小题10】 we can feel relaxed and delighted along with our peers.”

Starbucks began in 1971 in Seattle, Washington. The company 【小题1】(name) after a character in the famous book Moby Dick. Back in 1971, no one knew just how much profit this little coffee company would make. In 1987, Howard Schultz took over Starbucks and changed【小题2】(it) name to Starbucks Corporation. As he expanded the company, Schultz wanted Starbucks to be a place where people would enjoy 【小题3】 (work). He wanted the employees to be happy. An example of how Schultz tried 【小题4】 (achieve) this is another of the company’s principles, which says, “Provide 【小题5】 great work environment, and treat each other with respect and dignity.” At that time, Starbucks had just seventeen stores.

In 2001, Starbucks opened the 300th store in Japan. It had shops in seventeen countries 【小题6】 (include) Kuwait, New Zealand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. One year later, in 2002, Starbucks provided a new service,【小题7】added to its popularity. It introduced its own 【小题8】 (wire) Internet connection and made it available to customers in its cafe. Soon, people started going to Starbucks not just to drink coffee,【小题9】to do Internet research, send e-mails, and surf the web on their own laptop computers. Since then, Starbucks 【小题10】 (add) almost fifteen hundred stores around the world.

In 1965, Millard and Linda Fuller decided to trade their lives as millionaires for a simple life helping others. They made this decision after visiting a community-run farm, 【小题1】 everyone worked together and helped each other. The farm inspired the Fullers and in 1976, they founded Habitat for Humanity, 【小题2】 non-governmental organization aimed 【小题3】 building houses worldwide for poor people.

Habitat houses are built by volunteers, and the materials used to build the houses 【小题4】 (donate). Because the Fullers believe that people should work to improve their own lives, those who receive a house must also spend hours 【小题5】 (help) build their homes.

Believing that people should help 【小题6】 (they), the Fullers want to ensure that houses are not 【小题7】 (simple) handed to people in need. Habitat houses are not free, but they are 【小题8】 (expensive) than other houses because the organization does not profit from them.

Today there are volunteers all around the world. Since 2000, many volunteers, including middle school and university students, 【小题9】 (build) houses for people in need. By building houses and helping them take 【小题10】 (responsible) for their lives, Habitat for Humanity is building hope around the world.
