But Johnsy’s mind 【小题5】 (make) up and she wanted to go sailing down like one of those poor, tired 【小题6】 (leaf). Sue went to fetch Mr Behrman, a failed painter, to be a model for her drawing. In 40 years, Mr Behrman had been longing to paint a masterpiece. A cold rain was falling, 【小题7】 (mix) with snow. The next morning there was still one leaf. And another terrible night, it was still there. Johnsy was in bed for a long time, looking at it. Then she saw the life’s energy and wanted to live. With the help of the doctor and Sue, Johnsy was out of danger 【小题8】 (gradual). But the bad news was 【小题9】 Mr Behrman died. And they knew the secret that the last leaf was just a painting drawn by Mr Behrman 【小题10】 that terrible night.

Mr. Johnson lived in the woods with his wife and children. He owned a farm, which looked almost 【小题1】 (abandon).【小题2】 (lucky), he also had a cow which produced milk every day. He sold or exchanged some of the milk in the towns nearby for other food and made cheese and butter for the family with what 【小题3】 (leave). The cow was their only means of support, in fact.

One day, the cow was eating grass 【小题4】 it began to rain heavily. While 【小题5】 (make) great efforts to run away, she fell over the hill and died. Then the Johnsons had to make a living 【小题6】 the cow. In order to support his family, Mr Johnson began to plant herbs and vegetables. Since the plants took a while to grow, he started cutting down trees 【小题7】 (sell) the wood.
