Pumas are large, cat-like animals which are found in America. When reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been 【小题1】 (find) 45 miles south of London, they were not taken 【小题2】 (serious) by experts from the zoo until enough evidence 【小题3】 (be) collected. Lots of cats love having cat companions, but if 【小题1】 (you) doesn’t, it might act out by showing fear or aggression.

This doesn’t 【小题2】 (necessary) mean you have to give one up! “Cats show great【小题3】 (flexible) in their social behavior,” says Kristyn Vitale, a researcher at the Human-Animal Interaction Lab at Oregon State University, US. She suggests separating the cats into different areas of the house and slowly 【小题4】(reintroduce) them to one another using a method called “Scent, Sight, Touch”: 【小题5】(take) a toy or blanket from each cat and swap (交换) them.

Give each cat the other cat’s scent item along with lots of praise and rewards so they associate. 【小题6】 smell with good things. Then feed them, so they start to associate positive feelings (food) with the sight of the other cat. “If owners go slow and give lots of rewards, many cats can learn to accept a companion cat,” Vitale says.

Scientists in Antarctica have made a surprising and welcome 【小题1】(discover)—the world’s largest breeding (繁殖) ground for fish. Researchers from Germany came across the fish while 【小题2】 (make) a map of the seabed of the Antarctic Weddell Sea. They found around 60 million icefish breeding in an area about 240 square kilometers. The research team had been setting down a number of 【小题3】 (camera) to a depth of 530 meters under the Wed-dell Sea for months. “Such a huge breeding area of icefish in the Weddell Sea was 【小题4】(previous) undiscovered, and it is totally attractive,” said Autun Purser, 【小题5】 deep-sea biologist.
