There are many kinds of friends. Some are always ______ you, but don’t understand you. Some say only a few words to you, but understand you. Many people will step in your life, but only ______ friends leave footprints.

I shall always recall (回忆) the autumn and the girl with the ______. She will always bring back the friendship between us. I know she will always be my best friend.

It was the golden season. I could see the ______ leaves floating (漂浮) with the cool wind. In such a season, I liked walking alone in the leaves, ______ to the sound of them.

Autumn is a harvest season and life is uninteresting. The boring days always get me ______. But one day, the sound of a violin flowed into my ears like a stream (小溪) flowing in the mountains. I was so surprised that I jumped to see what it was. A young girl, standing in the wind, was ______ in playing her violin.

I had ______ seen her before. The music was so nice that I listened quietly. Absorbed in the music, I didn’t know that I had been ______ there for so long but my existence (存在) did not seem to disturb her.

Leaves were still falling. Every day ______ she played the violin in the comer of the building, I went downstairs to watch her performance. I was the only listener. The autumn seemed no longer lonely and life became ______. Though we didn’t know each other, I thought we were already good friends.

Autumn was nearly over. One day, when I was listening carefully, the sound suddenly ______. To my surprise, the girl came over to me.

“You definitely like violin.” she said.

“Yes. And you play very well. Why did you stop?” I asked.

Suddenly, a ______ expression appeared on her face and I could feel something unusual. “I came here to see my grandmother, but now I must leave. I once played very badly. It was your listening every day that encouraged me.” she said.

“______ it was your playing that gave me a meaningful autumn,” I answered, “Let’s be friends.”

The girl smiled, and so did I.

I never heard her play again in my life. Only thick leaves were left behind. But I will always remember the fine ______ of the girl. She is like a dream—so short, so bright, like a shooting star giving off so much light that it makes the autumn beautiful.

After a rough week, all I wanted was a good rest. I went to the beach nearby for some ________ time with myself. It was a lovely, warm weekend in California, kids joyfully ________ in the water, or building sandcastles.

As I was leaving, I ________ a girl playing by herself. She built a little sandcastle with a moat (护城河) around it and was trying to fill it with water. Unfortunately, there was no ________ around to carry water. She would go to the waves,________ her hands and then walk back to her little castle. ________, not much of the water was making it to the moat. But she kept trying, still smiling and ________. As I was standing there watching her, feeling helpless, I ________ that I had a bottle of water in my bag. I quickly ________, took it out, and walked over to ________ it to her. Confused at first, she smiled but ________ her head shyly, saying no. I told her that it would make getting the water much faster. She ________ and finally took it from my hands after I insisted (坚持), Looking back, I saw her running over to the sea with a big smile, ________ in hand.

For me, it was a tiny ________. But I also know that when she meets someone in need, maybe, she would think of this little act of kindness by a ________. And maybe she would help create a little gentler world around her.

Jadav Payeng, an Indian, has formed the habit of planting a tree every day since he was just 16 years old. Now, almost 40 years later, he has created a ___ of 1,360 acres on what was once a poor land. 

Growing up on Majuli, the world’s largest river island, he once ___ hundreds of animals dying from drought caused by the ___ greenery on the island, so he was determined to plant one tree every day. 

After almost four ___ of growth, his forest is now home to hundreds of elephants, tigers, deer and birds. Payeng says he has lost count of how many trees he has planted—but he ___ there are now thousands of trees providing ___ for the wildlife. 

“It’s not as if I did it ___ ,” Payeng said. “You plant one or two trees, and they have to seed. And once they seed, the wind knows how to plant them; the birds here know how to sow them; cows know; elephants ___ , and even the river knows. The entire ecosystem knows.” 

Island locals used to call Payeng “crazy” for his ___ , but since he was accidentally ____ by a wandering wildlife journalist in 2007, the “Forest Man of India” has been ____ as a role model for protecting the environment. 

Payeng doesn’t plan on ____ any time soon—he wants to continue planting trees “until his last ____”. He hopes to ____ the entire island one day with 5,000 acres of trees. “Nature is everything. It ____ me. It gives me power.As long as it survives, I survive.”
