Guide to Stockholm University Library
Our library offers different types of studying places and provides a good studying environment.
Zones
The library is divided into different zones. The upper floor is a quiet zone with over a thousand places for silent reading, and places where you can sit and work with your own computer. The reading places consist mostly of tables and chairs. The ground floor is the zone where you can talk. Here you can find sofas and armchairs for group work.
Computers
You can use your own computer to connect to the wi-fi specially prepared for notebook computers; you can also use library computers, which contain the most commonly used applications, such as Microsoft Office. They are situated in the area known as the Experimental Field on the ground floor.
Group-study Places
If you want to discuss freely without disturbing others, you can book a study room or sit at a table on the ground floor. Some study rooms are for 2-3 people and others can hold up to 6-8 people. All rooms are marked on the library maps.
There are 40 group-study rooms that must be booked via the website. To book, you need an active University account and a valid University card. You can use a room three hours per day, nine hours at most per week.
Storage of Study Material
The library has lockers for students to store course literature. When you have obtained at least 40 credits, you may rent a locker and pay 400 SEK for a year’s rental period.
Rules to be Followed

How to study more effectively

●Pay attention in class. Good study habits begin before you even leave the classroom. 【小题1】 Ask questions, and answer the teacher’s questions. Pay close attention for cues (or direct statements) from the teacher about what is most important to know, and take notes especially on these topics.

●Use all resources made available to you. 【小题2】 Also, read over any notes, handouts, or other materials given to you. If there is a review session offered by the teacher, go to it. Give yourself the best chance for success. You’d be surprised by the number of people who do poorly on tests because they don’t read the book.

●Pick apart the textbook. Don’t just read the assignment mindlessly — actively engage with it. Pick out the important words (sometimes they’re in bold), look them up if needed, and write your own definition for them. 【小题3】

●Put information into your own words. As with writing down your own definitions for key terms in the textbook chapter, it’s best to put all the critical information into your own words. Keep a notebook and pen near you, and write out the key points you are studying. 【小题4】 It’s even best to rewrite your own classroom notes. This is a proven trick to help your brain engage more in the material.

【小题5】 Our brains engage the material we’re studying at multiple levels at once. While we consciously (有意识地) take in and try to comprehend the material we’re studying, unconscious layers of our brain are working behind the scenes to organize and make sense of the material. Stop every so often so that you can take advantage of this behind-the-scenes work you’re doing without realizing it. Concentrate intently on your study materials for a reasonable period of time (a half-hour, for instance), then take a step back, pull out a sheet of paper, and try to summarize what you’ve just learned in your own words.

A.Keep you active to strengthen it.
B.Process, then summarize the information.
C.Read the assigned chapter in the textbook.
D.If you have someone else’s notes, rewrite them yourself.
E.Listen attentively to what the teacher has to say on the subject.
F.Associate what you’re learning in theory with a more practical example.
G.Carefully examine introductions, conclusions and review sections in the textbook.

Have you ever wished you didn’t have to wake up early and go all the way to school? For 700,000 American kids, this wish comes true.【小题1】This kind of learning has different names: online learning or distance learning. Regardless of what it is called, this idea may create an impression of a lonely kid reading pages of information on a computer screen rather than from a book or an image of another kid spending the day playing video games instead of learning mathematics or reading a book. Where online education is concerned, both of these are false! Actually, online learning simply means learning differently.

【小题2】Flexibility is the main advantage. Students can attend school wherever and whenever they desire. Homework can be turned in from anywhere the student has Internet access. Additionally, many online schools will allow students to work at their own pace.

Another advantage of online schooling is with the variety of courses. Most online schools teach the same basic classes like English, math, science, and history.【小题3】However, traditional schools are often unable to offer these types of classes if there are not enough students.

Online schools also have different types of learning tools for kids to use. For example, many online schools have special Web sites where only students registered in online classes can watch videos, see lessons presented, or chat with teachers and other students. Some online schools have live class times where students can call and talk with the teacher directly. 【小题4】

Computer technology is amazing, and we use computers for chatting with our friends, listening to music, and playing games.【小题5】Since 2012, at least 38 states either have had their own online schools or made rules for students attending them. It looks like online schools are here to stay, but only you can decide if this type of learning is right for you.

A.Online schools offer many benefits for the learners.
B.Of course, there are some disadvantages of going to school online.
C.Almost every part of our lives is affected by it, and school is no exception.
D.They attend school over the Internet using ordinary home or library computers.
E.Other online schools even have online clubs where kids can talk about their hobbies.
F.Some online schools also offer specialized classes in subjects such as space science, French, or zoology.
G.For some students, online school may be ideal, but for others, traditional school may better meet their needs.
