The Coral Nurture Program is a planting initiative (行为) undertaken by local researchers on the Great Barrier Reef (大堡礁).

Coral turns white due to the increasing temperature of its 【小题2】 (surround) water. But contrary to popular 【小题3】 (believe), coral bleaching is “not a death sentence,” he says. While it does leave the coral at risk, with a little care it can 【小题4】 fact make a full recovery.

And a little care is exactly 【小题5】 the Coral Nurture Program is giving the reef. Russell and the team collect pieces of healthy coral that have fallen off the reef and plant them in a special coral nursery 【小题6】 (regrow). Then, they are broken into much 【小题7】(small) pieces and reattached to the reef using special tools.

Another of the operators involved in the Coral Nurture Program, Ocean Freedom, is also reporting positive results. Owners of Ocean Freedom, Taryn and Perry, are extremely excited to be part of the initiative, saying that it’s all about 【小题8】 (assist) the reef as nature intended, strengthening but not changing 【小题9】 balance of its ecosystem on their sites.

The Coral Nurture Program has 【小题10】 (successful) re-planted over 1,000 pieces of coral, and are helping the reef to not just survive, but grow.

Each year, billions of pounds of trash and other【小题1】（pollute）enter the ocean. Where do they go? Some sinks, some is eaten by sea animals【小题2】mistake it for food and some washes up on our beaches.

"There's almost nothing【小题3】（bad）than oceanfront sands littered with trash. It could be paradise," said Ma Jiayu, who joined the International Coastal Cleanup event, which was held by the Blue Ocean Conservation Association（BOCA）,【小题4】nonprofit organization in Shenzhen.

On the third weekend of last September, hundreds of volunteers【小题5】（arm）with bags, gloves, litter pickers got to work cleaning beaches. The volunteers—【小题6】（include）teenagers, teachers, workers and statesmen—【小题7】 （separate）into 26 cleaning spots along the 260.5 kilometer coastline.

Founded by a few divers, the BOCA has long gone to the bottom of the ocean to clean.【小题8】heavy scuba tanks （潜水空气瓶）,masks and dive fins, divers face the dangers of low visibility or getting stuck. But they are happy【小题9】（save）clownfish and protect the coral reefs.

"Change comes from each of us, through our actions and【小题10】（behave）. If you do it, others might do it as well through the power of example. And they will teach others to do it too, and slowly, our plant might start being a cleaner place," said Ma Haipeng, the chairman of the BOCA.

Climate varies from place to place. A desert, for example, is known as a dry climate 【小题1】 little water falls during the year. In polar regions, however, 【小题2】(rise) global temperatures mean that ice sheets and glaciers are melting at an alarming rate from season to season. This contributes 【小题3】 sea level rise in 【小题4】(variety) regions of the planet.

The cause of current climate change is larger human activities, like burning fossil fuels, such as natural gas, oil and coal. Burning these materials 【小题5】(give) off greenhouse gases into the Earth's atmosphere. It is these greenhouse gases 【小题6】 cause the Earth's average temperature to rise. The warming of the planet has 【小题7】(effect) on the local and regional climates. Throughout the Earth's history, climate has 【小题8】(continual) changed. When occurring naturally, this is 【小题9】 slow process that has taken place over hundreds or thousands of years. The human-influenced climate change that is happening now is occurring at a much 【小题10】(fast) rate.
