I work in the area of conflict resolution for businesses and individuals which means I help 【小题1】 fix disagreements that arise. I’m 【小题2】 put in charge of different types of cases all the time which can be interesting but also challenging.

In business, disagreements can occur when someone 【小题3】 removes themselves from a 【小题4】 discussion to reach agreement. Other 【小题5】 small annoyances are also common. Sometimes, however, things become more serious. I try to help before they take legal action and go to court. In family situations, people can be in conflict about many things, some personal and some financial.

When asked to help resolve a conflict, the first thing I do is to 【小题6】 ask about what has led to the problem. I ask both sides privately to hear their views. Then I can see clearly where they disagree and 【小题7】 identify who might be wrong.

Both in business and in personal lives, I always encourage people to have 【小题8】 a calm and controlled nature and not get into big arguments or shout at each other. Instead, I encourage them to use their 【小题9】 experience and wisdom and communicate their feelings and expectations clearly.

When both sides do this, we can develop a plan to overcome their conflict. I 【小题10】 observe both sides closely to make sure they are following through with their actions and, usually l find that even things that seem complicated can be overcome.

A few years ago, I took a sightseeing trip to Washington D.C. I saw many of our nation’s treasures, and I also saw a lot of unfortunate people like beggars and homeless 【小题1】 in the streets.

Standing outside the Ronald Reagan Center, I heard a voice say, “Can you help me?” When I turned around, I saw an elderly blind woman with her hand 【小题2】. In a natural reaction, I 【小题3】 into my pocket, pulled out all of my loose 【小题4】 and placed it in her hand. I didn’t look at her. I was annoyed at being bothered by a beggar. But the blind woman smiled and said, “I don’t want your money. I just need help finding the post office.”

Immediately, I realized what I had done. I acted with prejudice—I judged another person 【小题5】 for what I thought she was.

The thing I had forgotten about myself is that I am an immigrant. I left Honduras and arrived in America at the age of 15. Through the years, I have been a dishwasher, cashier, 【小题6】 and pizza delivery driver among many other jobs, and finally I became a network engineer

In ray own life, I have experienced many 【小题7】 acts of prejudice. I remember a time, at age 17, I was a busboy, and I heard a father tell his little boy that if he did not do well at school, he would 【小题8】 up like me.

But now, living in my American middle-class lifestyle, it is too easy to forget my past, to forget who I am and where I have been, and to lose 【小题9】 0f where I want to be going. That blind woman on the street of Washington D.C.【小题10】 me of my blindness. She reminded me to always keep my eyes and heart open.

Leadership is a difficult concept to explain because everyone defines it differently. From my personal experiences as a student leader, I can tell you that there is no single 【小题1】 of leadership, particularly with student leaders. You are a leader, a student and a peer, so this role can be especially difficult to manage. As a student leader, you deal with academic 【小题2】 , as well as the added pressure of leading a group of your peers. As the president of FUSE, the contemporary dance group at Colgate University, I experienced many ups and downs with 【小题3】 . Thankfully, my passion for this dance club gave me the【小题4】 to lead my fellow dancers.

Finding an activity that is both enjoyable and 【小题5】 is the first step. In order to be a good leader, you must be 【小题6】 interested in what you are leading, whether it’s debating, cooking or robotics. In my case, dance has always been of interest to me, from my grandfather teaching me salsa to early childhood training with ballet, and so I always assume that dance would be part of my life. Once I arrived on my college campus, ready for my college adventure, I had a sudden 【小题7】 : wandering around the Student Activities Fair, I saw no contemporary or modern dance clubs. I panicked.

After meeting a fellow dancer at Freshmen Orientation, we found that we shared the same passion and desire to start a club. We held auditions, created club 【小题8】 and held practices. The process of creating the actual club was both fun and challenging because we had to figure out school club regulations, 【小题9】 many club rules, obtain 60 signatures of supporters and overcome other obstacles. As it turns out, this process was not a walk in the park for us.
