A terrible fire began to burn at France’s world-famous Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral (巴黎圣母院)【小题1】the evening of April 15. One man said, “Notre-Dame 【小题8】(destroy) but the soul of France was not.” French President Emmanuel Macron promised that Notre-Dame would be rebuilt and asked for worldwide help repairing it. John Snow was a well-known physician in London in the 19th century. 【小题1】 famous was he that he even attended Queen Victoria to ease the birth of her babies. However, he decided to defeat cholera, a 【小题2】 (dead) disease at that time when he saw thousands of people 【小题3】   (expose) to it died every time there was an outbreak.

In 1854 when cholera broke out, he began to gather information and marked on a map 【小题4】 all the dead people 【小题5】（live）. He found many people who had drunk 【小题6】 dirty water from the pump died. An emotional reunion has been 75 years in the making. Two WWII 【小题1】 (survive) , 87-year-old Morris Sana and 85-year-old Simon Mairowitz, are cousins 【小题2】grew up together in Romania. The boys had been the best friends until the war broke out in 1940, which led to both families 【小题3】 (flee) the country in separate directions.

Since the cousins had no way of communicating with each other after they fled their home nation, both of 【小题4】assumed that the other had fallen victim to the war. While Sana ended up settling down in Israel, Mairowitz and his family built a new home in the UK.

Decades later, Sana’s daughter began using the Internet 【小题5】 (track) down and befriend all of her father’s long-lost cousins and family members. When she told her dad that his beloved cousin 【小题6】 (find), a meeting between the two was set up. Sana’s granddaughter Leetal Ofer recorded their reunion and published the footage to Facebook. In the video, Sana and Mairowitz are 【小题7】(tearful) hugging each other and 【小题8】 (express) their gratitude for the meeting. Ofer later described the reunion 【小题9】one of the most moving things she had ever seen. “The war tore so many families apart and bringing them together in Israel is so 【小题10】 (magic),” she said.
