I have a warm story to share with you. A school in San Francisco not only accepted a deaf student, but also 【小题1】(teach) the entire class sign language to allow them to better communicate with him.

The moving story began in September last year 【小题2】 a woman asked the primary school in her neighborhood 【小题3】(accept) her six-year-old son, James, who has a hearing【小题4】(disable). The teacher, Lily, agreed almost immediately, 【小题5】 on the first day of school, she noticed James 【小题6】(sit) all by himself, unable to communicate with any of his classmates.

Lily, 【小题7】(determined) to find a way out, tried developing a few signs of her own. But a parent of another child came up 【小题8】 an even better idea—getting the whole class to learn sign language along with James. So they got a sign language teacher on board, and three months later, James was able to communicate 【小题9】(happy) with all his classmates about regular things like homework and 【小题10】(game).

Once a young man was passing by a street where he saw an old man sitting by the roadside【小题1】 (beg) for money. That old man was sitting there with   【小题2】 empty bowl in front of him, and a cardboard sign was put up beside the bowl. There was a sentence 【小题3】 (write) on the cardboard: “Blind-Please help!”

The young man felt very bad that no one planned 【小题4】 (give) him any money. So he went to the old man and took his cardboard in his hand. He then took a thick marker pen out of his pocket and re-wrote the sign without hesitation and then left. The old man noticed that someone was writing something 【小题5】 (differ) on the board but didn’t say anything.

Just in a few minutes, that empty bowl 【小题6】 (fill) with money. The old man noticed that and stopped a stranger and asked him 【小题7】 was on that cardboard. The stranger replied, “It says, ‘It’s a beautiful day. You can see it. I cannot.’” Our 【小题8】 (choose) of words and language can create positive or negative effects 【小题9】 others. If we choose the right words, then we can 【小题10】 (true) connect with people and change their views.

My name is Anna Brown. Three years ago, I had a car accident and lost my left arm. At first I was depressed. However, several months after I left the hospital, I read about two inspiring athletes 【小题1】 overcame their disabilities and I was greatly inspired. Today, I’d like to tell you about 【小题2】 (they).

The first one is Jason Lester. When Jason Lester was 12 years old, he 【小题3】(hit) by a car. One of his arms was severely injured. But today, he can run 【小题4】(believable) long distances, and he can swim 【小题5】(fast) and ride further than most people with no disabilities. He does them all without the full use of his right arm. In 2009, he was named the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Award winner for “Best Male Athlete with a Disability”.

The second one is Melissa Stockwell. In 2004, Melissa Stockwell lost her leg. She was a swimmer in high school 【小题6】 the accident. After she got 【小题7】(injure), she didn’t want to leave water forever just because of the accidents. She kept on 【小题8】(swim). At last, in the 2008 Paralympic Games she became the record 【小题9】(hold) for the 100-meter butterfly and the 100-meter freestyle.

Their stories convinced me that we can really do amazing things, 【小题10】 we’re disabled or not.
