Long ago，there lived in Egypt a learned man. He was so well known 【小题1】 his knowledge of almost everything that lots of people from all over the country came to learn from him. The great man 【小题2】（teach）his students whole-heartedly and answered their questions with great 【小题3】（patient）.

One day，a student asked him，"My dear teacher，didn't you say you yourself have many more questions about things than we do？【小题4】 I think we students have far more than you."

With 【小题5】 smile on his face, the teacher drew two circles, one as large as a big cake, the other smaller. Then he said," Of course, I have learned much more. But it is wrong 【小题6】 (think) a teacher has fewer questions than his students. Now, look at these two circles. The inside of the 【小题7】 (big) one is my knowledge of things, and the inside of the smaller one is 【小题8】 (you). Out of the circles is what is still unknown to us. Since mine is larger, I have to use the longer line to draw the bigger circle. That means I have more opportunities to face something unknown. And that's 【小题9】 I myself have more questions than you do. The more you learn, the more 【小题10】 (question) you have. You will never learn enough, you know."

My mother was the one who whipped（打）me. At least she did whenever she wasn't ashamed to let the【小题1】 (neighbor) think she was killing me. Every time she acted as though she was about 【小题2】 (raise) her hand to me, I would open my mouth and let the world know about it. If anybody was passing by out on the road, she would either change her mind 【小题3】 just give me a few licks（轻打）.

【小题4】 (think) about it now, I feel definitely that just as my father favored me for being lighter than the other children, my mother 【小题5】 (give) me more hell for the same reason. She was very light herself, but she favored the ones who were darker. Wilfred, I knew, was 【小题6】 (particular) her angel.

I learned early that crying out in protest（抗议） could accomplish things. My older brothers and sisters would sometimes come in from school and ask for a 【小题7】 (butter) biscuit or something. My mother, impatiently, would tell them no. But I would cry out and make a fuss until I got 【小题8】 I wanted. I remember well how my mother asked me why I couldn't be a nice boy like Wilfred. But I would think 【小题9】 myself that Wilfred, for being so nice and quiet, often stayed 【小题10】 (hunger). So early in life, I had learned that if you want something, you had better make some noise.

Jordan says that the secret to his success is learning from his failures. “I can accept failure; everyone 【小题1】 (fail) at something. 【小题2】 I can’t accept not trying.” Losing games taught him to practice 【小题3】 (hard) and never give 【小题4】. In life, Jordan has learnt to share his success with others. The Boys and Girls Club 【小题5】 he started in Chicago has been helping young people since 1996.
