This vacation has been an amazing one, a vacation spent in exploring beautiful regions and islands. I spent an incredible vacation recharging, and I'm ready to give the remaining of the year my all! So no, I don't have post-vacation blues, but it seems like everyone else does.

All I see is people posting on social media about how unhappy they are to be coming back to their everyday life. Going back to their “routines" makes them sad.

But we need to analyze this a bit more. Sure, who doesn't like vacations? But the whole concept that “vacations are great" and “regular life sucks" is so bad! Because if you don't like your regular life, it means that you're spending 70% of your life doing something you don't like, and the remaining trying to recharge to face that 70% of your life. It's not sustainable.

When I went on the press trip to Ischia, I met so many food and travel bloggers, but guess what, they are all either in university or working full time jobs! They found the time to create something they are enthusiastic about! It's never too late to change that routine you so desperately want to get rid of. Sure, it takes a bit of investment initially, but when you come home after doing something you love, I assure you, it won't even feel like you've overworked!

Don't get me wrong, swimming in clear waters is better than sitting in an office. But what if you were working towards something bigger? A project? Something creative? Wouldn't you feel more motivated to get back and work on it? Post-vacation blues are normal, but let's not make vacations the only thing we're looking forward to in life! Your everyday life can be amazing too. You just have to take a few steps towards making it so. The first thing to do is to overcome the blues.

Millennials (千禧一代) who conduct “forward-looking financial strategies” tend to be happier and more satisfied with their lives. Following a budget, saving money and shopping less have benefits “beyond the bound of personal finance”, according to a new study out of the University of Arizona.

For the study, researchers collected data from 968 young adults born between the years 1981 and 1996, starting when they were freshmen in college (ages 18-21). They followed up with the same students when they were seniors, and then two years later (ages 23-26). The study participants answered questions about materialism, their own personal finance strategies such as budgeting and any pro-environmental habits they followed. Students were also surveyed about their mental health, including how satisfied they were with their lives and how they’d rank their personal well-being.

“People who save money report better overall wellbeing. including less psychological pain, ”Sabrina Helm, study author tells CNBC Make It. “And people who buy less and consume less show less depressive symptoms, so there’s a positive mental health effect.”

Not surprisingly, the money-saving strategies improved people’s financial satisfaction too. “It gives you peace of mind. ”Dr. Helm says. “If you’re able to put something aside for worse days, and manage to live within your means, it has clear positive effects on mental health.”

Certain sustainability efforts also have a similar impact on people’s health and happiness. For example, researchers found that the students who consumed less to help the environment were happier than those who simply bought more “green” products. Although many people have been socialized to see products as solutions, simply reducing the number of things you use or buy might be the better tactic for your mental health, Dr. Helm explains.

“It’s normal to geta product to cope with all sorts of things,” Dr. Helm says, “but that contributes to climate change.” Luckily, there are concrete tips to “step back from the consumerist approach”, she adds. For example, she suggests keeping a weekly purchase diary and creating a shopping list.

Does Fame Drive You Crazy?

Although being famous might sound like a dream come true, today’s star, feeling like zoo animals, face pressures that few of us can imagine. They are at the center of much of the world’s attention. Paparazzi (狗仔队) camp outside their homes, cameras ready. Tabloids (小报) publish thrilling stories about their personal lives. Just imagine not being able to do anything without being photographed or interrupted for a signature.

According to psychologist Christina Villareal, celebrities — famous people — worry constantly about their public appearance. Eventually, they start to lose track of who they really are, seeing themselves the way their fans imagine them, not as the people they were before everyone knew their names. “Over time,” Villareal says, “they feel separated and alone.”

The phenomenon of tracking celebrities has been around for ages. In the 4th century B.C., painters followed Alexander the Great into battle, hoping to picture his victories for his admirers. When Charles Dickens visited America in the 19th century, his sold-out readings attracted thousands of fans, leading him to complain about his lack of privacy. Tabloids of the 1920s and 1930s ran articles about film-stars in much the same way that modern tabloids and websites do.

Being a public figure today, however, is a lot more difficult than it used to be. Superstars cannot move about without worrying about photographers with modern cameras. When they say something silly or do something ridiculous, there is always the Internet to spread the news in minutes and keep their “story” alive forever.

If fame is so troublesome, why aren’t all celebrities running away from it? The answer is there are still ways to deal with it. Some stars stay calm by surrounding themselves with trusted friends and family or by escaping to remote places away from big cities. They focus not on how famous they are but on what they love to do or whatever made them famous in the first place.

Sometimes a few celebrities can get a little justice. Still, even stars who enjoy full justice often complain about how hard their lives are. They are tired of being famous already.

Light pollution is defined as too much misdirected or obtrusive (突兀的) artificial light. This definition applies to unwanted light in your own community as well as the night sky.

The primary cause of light pollution is the improper use of outdoor lighting. Many lights are arranged in a way that wastes up to 60% of their emitted (发散的) light. About 50% of emitted light shines directly into the atmosphere, a large percentage bouncing back down to Earth and creating the dome (穹顶) of light over cities called skyglow. We can see these domes from many miles away and they have a significantly negative effect on our view of the universe. The remaining 10% of that wasted light shines directly into our line of sight producing blinding light which destroys our ability to see safely at night.

Not only does light pollution make our cultural connections weaker and prevent our scientific explorations of the night sky, but it also harms wildlife. Many animals that rely on the natural darkness of the night to hunt become confused about the obtrusive skyglow of artificial light. Their inborn ability to follow this false light leads them on an unnatural routes which often leads to death.

Light pollution also takes a toll on our limited resources. It is estimated that up to 35% of the total outdoor lighting in the United States is completely wasted into the atmosphere. This means that 35% of the resources we use to create that electricity are completely wasted. This translates to about 3 billion dollars a year in wasted resources that are creating sky glow and light pollution.

We have seen a big increase in light pollution over the last few decades. Many people have watched the Milky Way disappear over their homes as growing unwanted light dominates the sky like continuous, incoming tides. Thankfully, unlike many other forms of irreparable pollution, light pollution is 100% fixable, which can be cleaned up at the speed of light.
