Our Daily Bread

It was painted in 1886 by Anders Leonard Zorn from Sweden, which depicts (描绘) his mother cooking potatoes for the harvesters. The painting is from his private collection and honors his mother. He was in his mid-20s when he painted it to show how his mother tried hard to support him and the big family. The painting was later bought by National Museum in Stockholm.

Glow of Hope

It is also referred to as Woman with the Lamp. It’s a work of art by S. L. Haldankar. This painting was produced in 1945-46. Haldankar had the idea of painting it at an Indian festival Diwali, the festival of lights, when he saw his daughter in a beautiful Indian dress with a candle in one hand and her other hand protecting the flame from the wind.

Dog Lying in the Snow

This popular work was created in 1911 by a Germany-based artist, Franz Marc. The painting features Marc’s own Siberian Shepherd named Russi. The dog was lying comfortably in the white snow in January, near the village where he lived. The scene shows a creature in harmony with nature.

Portrait of Mari Clasen

It is one of the most famous oil paintings in the world. The Drammen, Norway-based artist Halfdan Johnsen Egedius painted it in 1895. He described the beauty of the Norwegian folk costume-bunad, worn by Mari Clasen, a pretty young woman from South Central Norway. The painting speaks a lot about the beauty and traditions of the country.

BIRD WALK(Any time of year)-Join us for a private bird walk through our sanctuary(保护区）。 The Bent's grasslands, trees and woods provide great habitat(栖息地）for birds moving from one place to another, such as Warblers, Vireos, Indigo Buntings, Thrushes, Orioles, and more. This walk will be made to the members in your party.

NATURE HIKE(Any time of year)-Take a private hike with Bent of the River! Your personal guide will show you notable habitats and wildlife around the center trails. Nature is exciting and always changing, so you never know what we will find along the way! This program is ideal for people who want to enjoy beautiful scenery while hiking.

POMPERAUG RIVER EXPLORATION(June and July only)-Many fascinating creatures live in and around the Pomperaug River! During this recreational(休闲的） program, an Audubon naturalist will share the human and natural history of the river and teach you how to catch fish and animals. The Bent will supply you with necessary tools, such as nets, containers, and field guides. Once the animals are caught, we will observe and identify(确定身份） them and learn how they can help show the health of the river before we put them back to the wild.

OWL PROWL(January and February only)-Enjoy a special guided adventure in search of one of the most beloved groups of birds-owls(猫头鹰）！We will be prowling for owls on a walk through the grassland and forests in hopes of seeing one of the three owl species known to live in Connecticut: the Great-horned Owl, Barred Owl, or Eastern Screech-Owl.

WALL·E

An animated film by Stanton in 2008. In this film, the story takes place in 2700, humans abandon Earth because there is too much rubbish on it, leaving behind some robots to do the cleaning up. Over time, the robots break down one by one, until WALL·E is the only robot left. One day, he meets another robot Eve working on Earth from space which has returned to Earth and falls in love with Eve at the very first sight. In the end, they find a way to save the planet.

Avatar

Directed by James Cameron in 2009. This film is set in the 22nd century. Earth is suffering a severe energy crisis. Scientists have found another planet called Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na’vi. It is rich in natural resources, yet its atmosphere is poisonous to humans. To explore Pandora and exploit its resources, scientists use a new technology, creating “avatars” operated by genetically matched humans.

Interstellar

Directed by Christopher Nolan in 2014. In this film, Earth is coming to an end through disasters, famines and droughts. There is only one way to ensure mankind’s survival: Interstellar travel. A team of astronauts board a spaceship, travelling through a newly discovered wormhole to find another planet that may have the right environment for humans to settle.

Ready Player One

Directed by Steven Spielberg in 2018. This film is set in the year 2045, when the real world is a harsh place. Many people escape reality by spending their days in a virtual reality universe called OASIS, where one can go anywhere, do anything or be anyone-the only limits are your own imagination.
