A huge 42 percent of marriages in the UK end in divorce, the highest rate in Europe. What is happening in the UK to cause such a phenomenon? Many consider the family to be the basic building block of society. If marriages and families are falling apart, is the UK society also falling apart? Is the UKs cultural identity breaking down? The UK of today is one of the most multicultural countries on earth. There are exotic sights and sounds on the street corners of every British city. British cuisine is now one of the most diverse around. Everyone speaks with a different accent.

Is such diversity a good thing? Well, it makes the UK a very exciting place to live in. There are new ideas everywhere. There is great freedom to be who you want to be, and most people will not criticize you for who you are. Yet such freedom seems to come at a cost. Some British people regard ethnic minorities (少数民族) as coming to the UK to steal jobs. When the economy does badly, this feeling increases as unemployment rates rise. So, it could be argued that the breakdown of marriages in the UK is in some part because of the pressures put upon families by wider problems in British society. Many people become stressed when those problems arise, and that can then make their family life unhappy as well.

Another possible reason for the high divorce rate might be that marriage no longer has the same value or meaning for British people as it once did. Church attendance in the UK has been falling for the last 50 years, suggesting fewer people consider marriage a holy thing. Since 1991, there has been a drop of 50 percent in people getting married in church rather than a register office.

Then there is the financial side. In the past, married couples paid lower government taxes than single people. That tax incentive (激励) policy, which used to reduce a couples tax by up to 500 in a year, has now disappeared, making the cost to keep a marriage higher.

However, the 42 percent UK divorce rate isn’t the highest rate in the past forty years! Meanwhile, some measures are being taken to strengthen marriage in the UK by the government.

For those who think that wealth can come without love, you should reconsider your position.

To get wealth, if you believe what you see in movies, seems to mean that you have to give up love because: how can people get wealth if they are afraid to roll over others who stand in their way?

I would disagree with this view because I’ve seen a bad example. Several years ago,   I knew a man who lost not only his wealth but also his respect, and at last was put into prison for deceiving (欺骗) his customers to make money. He was a man who pretended to care for the well-being of his customers who gave him their trust. He had been a man with good fame for many years, often admired and talked about as a true model of a caring business person. However, all he saw was the opportunity to deceive and make money.

But I have also seen the opposite. Some people have got great wealth too, because they first feel love towards others and start businesses that help meet other people’s growth needs. For example, people like Dale Carnegie, Anthony Robbins and other famous people who devoted their talents and lives to helping other people move forward.

And there is also another kind of wealth. Some people love others and their point of view is to help others. These people will get wealth that is not measured in dollars and cents. Instead, it is measured in caring, kindness, and the appreciation and admiration of others who they meet and deal with in their everyday life. They are quiet millionaires of life; millionaires with wealth that is not affected by the ups and downs of the stock market or the cost of daily necessities.

Almost all researches in sleep explain that nightmares are a reaction to negative experiences that happen during waking hours. However, some of them believe that nightmares do have some real benefits. One 2017 study, for example, found that frequent nightmare sufferers considered themselves as more empathetic (共鸣的). They also showed more of a tendency to unconsciously mirror other people through things like yawning. People who have constant nightmares also tend to think further outside the box on psychoanalysis tasks. Some other researches have found support for the idea that nightmares might be linked to creativity.

People seeking cure for nightmares were not necessarily more fearful or anxious, but rather had a general sensitivity (敏感) to all emotional experiences. Sensitivity is the driving force behind Intense (强烈的) dreams. Heightened sensitivity to threats or fear during the day results in bad dreams and nightmares, while heightened passion or excitement may result in more intense positive dream. And both these forms of dreams may feed back into waking life, perhaps increasing suffering after nightmares, or promoting (促进) social bonds and empathy (共鸣) after positive dreams.

The effects go further still. This sensitivity overflows over into perceptions and thoughts: people who have a lot of nightmares experience a dreamlike quality to their waking thoughts. And this kind of thinking seems to give them a creative advantage. For example, studies show that such people tend to have greater creative talent and artistic expression. And people who often have nightmares also tend to have more positive dreams than the average person.

The evidence points towards the idea that, rather than disturbing normal activity, people who are unfortunate in having a lot of nightmares also have a dreaming life that is at least as creative, positive and vivid as it can be distressing and frightening. What’s more, this imaginative richness is unlikely to be limited to sleep, but also is filled with waking thought and daydreams. Even after people wake up and shake off the nightmare, in other words, a mark of it stays behind, occupying them throughout the day.

When someone has been bitten by a snake, try to find out if the snake is poisonous or harmless. Their bite marks are usually different. The bite of most of most poisonous snake leaves marks of two fangs(毒牙). If the bit of a snake leaves only two rows of teeth marks, but no fang marks, it is less likely that the snake is poisonous.

People often believe that certain harmless snakes are poisonous. Try to find out which of the snakes in your ares are truly poisonous and which are not. Please do not kill non-poisonous snakes, because they do no harm. On the contrary, they kill mice and other pests that do lots of damage. Some even kill poisonous snakes.

Here is some treatment for poisonous snakebite:

*Stay quiet: don’t move the bitten part. The more it’s moved, the faster the poison will spread through the body. If the bite is on the foot, the person should not walk at all. Send for medical hep.

*Remove jewellery because swelling can spread rapidly.

*Wrap the bitten are with a wide elastic bandage or clean cloth to slow the spread of poison. Keeping the arm or leg very still, wrap it tightly, but not so tight that it stops the pulse(脉搏)at the wrist or on top of the foot. If you cannot feel the pulse, loosen the bandage a little.

*Wind the bandage over the hand or foot, and up the whole arm or leg. Make sure you can still feel the pulse.

*Carry the person, on a stretcher(担架)if possible, to the nearest health center. If you can also take the snake, because different snakes may require different antivenoms(抗毒血清).

*Poisonous snakebite is dangerous. Send for medical help----but always do the things explained above at once.
