What on earth does happiness mean? I can’t give you its exact definition, but I am sure【小题1】you love and help others, you’ll get it.

I’ll never forget an old lady, 【小题2】lives in a small house alone. It’s said that her husband and her son【小题3】(die) in a road accident years ago. Her life is bitter, but she often helps others with a smile. Whenever it snows, she is always the first 【小题4】(clean) the paths.

She looks after several children 【小题5】(live) nearby. Perhaps she is unlucky, but I think she is a happy person. Her life is full of 【小题6】(laugh) and love.

But I’m sad to see some people getting their happiness in bad ways. They talk 【小题7】(noise) in cinemas and meeting rooms; they destroy trees to enjoy 【小题8】(they) and they laugh at others’ shortcomings. Perhaps they feel happy 【小题9】that time, but they will never get true happiness because they have lost their personality already.

Now I know 【小题10】happiness is. It means kindness, love and unselfishness. Above all, I have come to understand that bringing happiness to others is getting ourselves happiness.

Have you ever noticed how hard it can be to find the right words? I have, frequently. And there are times 【小题1】 I am certain the right words do not even exist.

More than once I 【小题2】(call) to a hospital emergency room or to be with a family around the bed of a dying relative. And more than once I’ve been at a loss for words.

A wise doctor at 【小题3】 university teaching hospital once made a comment about comforting those who suffer. Someone asked the doctor what advice he offered his students, the future doctors and nurses, when 【小题4】(care)for mothers who gave birth to stillborn babies. The doctor paused 【小题5】 a moment in thought. Then he said, “I tell them that they need two eyes. With one eye they have to check the drip(滴注器). And with the other eye they have to weep. That’s what I tell them.”

That may be some of the 【小题6】(wise)advice I’ve ever heard. We may not always need to figure out what to say; we really only need two eyes. The words 【小题7】(write) by Emily Dickinson read, “Saying nothing…sometimes says the most.” It says I want to be 【小题8】(full) present with them and walk alongside them, difficult 【小题9】 it may be. My presence is something they can draw real 【小题10】(strong) and hope from.

Waiting for the airplane to take off, I was happy to get a seat by myself. Just then, 【小题1】air hostess approached me and asked, “Would you mind【小题2】 (change) your seat? A couple would like to sit together.” The only possible seat was next to a girl with her arms in casts(石膏）, a black-and-blue face, and a sad【小题3】 (express).“No way am I going to sit there,” I thought【小题4】 (immediate). But a soft voice spoke, “She needs help.” Finally, I decided to move to that seat.

The girl was named Kathy. She【小题5】 (hurt) in a car accident and now was on her way for treatment .

When the snacks and juice arrived, it did not take me long to realise that Kathy would not be able to feed【小题6】 (her). I considered offering【小题7】 (feed) her but hesitated , as it seemed too impolite to offer a service to a stranger. But then I realised that Kathy’s need was more important【小题8】my discomfort. I helped her eat, and although she was uncomfortable, she accepted. We became closer and closer in a short period of time. By the end of the five-hour trip, my heart had warmed, and the time was really better spent than if I had just sat by myself.

Love sometimes flows beyond human borders and removes the fears【小题9】keep us separate. When we offer to serve another, we grow to live in a【小题10】 (large) and more rewarding world.
