Every people uses its own special word to show its ideas and feelings. Some of these expressions are commonly used for many years. Others are popular for just a short time. One such American expression is “Where’s the beef? ”It is used when something is not as good as it is said to be. In the early 1980s“Where’s the beef?” was one of the most popular expressions in the United States. It seemed as if everyone using it at the time.

Beef, of course, is the meat from a cow, and this kind of food is more popular in America than a hamburger made from beef. In the 1960s a businessman named Ray began building small restaurants that sold hamburgers at a low price. Ray called this “McDonald’s”. Ray became one of the richest businessmen at last in America.

Other business people watched his success. Some of them opened their own hamburger restaurants. One company called “Wendy’s” said its hamburgers were bigger than those sold by McDonald’s or anyone else. The Wendy’s Company began to use the expression “Where’s the beef ? ”to make people know that Wendy’s hamburgers were the biggest. The Wendy’s television advertisement showed three old women eating hamburgers. The bread that covered the meat was very big, but inside there was only a bit of meat. One of the women said she would not eat a hamburger with such a little piece of beef. “Where’s the beef? ”she shouted in a funny way. The advertisement for Wendy’s hamburger restaurants was success. As we said, it seemed everyone began using the expression “Where’s the beef? ”.

The AU Confucius Institute Chinese Language and Culture Day Camp offers a great introduction to Chinese language and culture in an exciting, fun-filled, interactive environment. The small-class format ensures that each camper gets enough individual attention. This program features:

·Cooking
·Daily supervised cafeteria-style lunch in the University Dining Hall
Faculty

Top quality instruction is provided by distinguished members of the AU Confucius Institute faculty who are experienced teachers, fluent in both English and Chinese.


Who Can Attend?

This week-long day camp is for students aged 7-16 who wish to participate in a fun, dynamic summer experience in Chinese language and culture. For classes, students will be divided into younger and older age groups.


Schedule

Students must arrive at the Confucius Institute each day by 9:00 a.m. and must be picked up at 3:30 p.m. Morning lessons will focus on Chinese language classes, while afternoons will be filled with hands-on cultural activities. Instructors will bring students to the Powell Campus Center dining hall for a supervised, cafeteria-style lunch each day.

Please finish the enrollment form and return by July 11,with your $150 payment, to: Office of Summer Programs, Alfred University, I Saxon Drive, Alfred, NY 14802.Checks should be made payable to Alfred University.Major credit cards are also accepted.(If paying by credit card, feel free to fax enrollment form to us at 607-871-2045.)


Cancellation(取消) Policy

Full refunds will be made for cancellations received by 3:30 p.m. on July 22, 2017. We cannot make refunds to students who cancel after July 22 because the amount of materials purchased, meal counts and classroom spaces are based upon the number of students expected and cannot be changed after that time.

Skills Development Fund (SDF)in Ontario, Canada

Overview

SDF offers funding to organizations for innovative projects that address challenges of hiring or training workers to drive the economic growth of Ontario, Canada.

SDF supports:

●projects that address the labor shortage and stimulate growth in key sectors(部门,区域) of Ontario’s economy;

●projects helping people with prior involvement in those with disabilities, newcomers, and others facing barriers to employment;

●projects that will increase Ontario’s long-term economic competitive advantage by creating a sustainable and adaptable workforce.

Qualified Organizations

The following organizations are qualified to apply for SDF as primary applicants:

●local trade unions;

●local training delivery agencies;

●non-profit organizations in Ontario;

●employers with a presence in Ontario;

●native professional, industry or employer associations;

●District Social Services Administration Boards and hospitals.

The following organizations are qualified to apply for SDF as a co-applicant with one or more of the organizations above:

●publicly assisted colleges, universities or institutes in Ontario;

●private career colleges registered under the Private Career Colleges Act,2005.

The Gold Coast Wax(蜡)Museum is one of the Gold Coast’s longest running attractions. It’s a collection of famous figures. It’s Australia’s largest museum of its kind, featuring more than 110 life-size copies of wax figures of British and Australian History.

Information cards are located alongside each figure, helping visitors know them well.

The old Coast Wax Museum contains figures which have been crafted by leading local and overseas sculptors to international standards’ equal in quality to the world’s best, as seen in Europe, the United Kingdom, and USA. The detail in the figures is amazing and includes hair applied one strand(线)at a time, requiring many working hours for one hand and the eyes so real that they seem to follow the viewer around.

Notice to visitors

●All carried items including food and drinks will be inspected upon entry.

●Coats, umbrellas, etc. should be left in the checkrooms (行李寄存处) (max size 40×40×50 cm and max weight 8 kg).

●The checkroom is to the left of the Main entrance (£1.50 per item).

●When maximum checkrooms capacity is reached the Museum cannot accept any more items.

●Bring your sense of adventure and your camera with you and see something exciting and quite unique.
